So I see The Personal History of David Copperfield just got picked up by Fox Searchlight. It is premiering in Toronto in Sept and also showing at the BFI Film Festival in October. They are stating a release date of "2020." My question for you indie snobs, is how long after the festival circuit do the studios usually wait before they release it to the masses? Is it possible this will get released within our time frame for the game? Thanks!

Depends on reviews, but there's a pretty solid chance it receives a winter/spring release.

High chance of a limited release in March/April, 50/50 chance of an awards push this year. Disney hasn't dated any Fox Searchlight titles for 2020 yet, but we're assuming The French Dispactch will be released somewhere in Q1.

Also interesting is that Disney has no movies dated for 2020 until Onward in March. (Star Wars of couse will rule January, at least)

Could see a limited release in Dec for awards and an expansion across Jan.

Fox Searchlight have Hidden Life coming in Dec though, so it'll depend on how well it's received in TIFF.

I'm thinking it will be a Spring release if The French Dispatch isn't ready in time. Disney is too focused on A Hidden Life, Ford v. Ferrari (which has been getting awards buzz but I feel it's another Rush and will get lost in the shuffle), and Jojo Rabbit (plus there are fringe contenders like Lucy in the Sky and Frozen II) to really add anything to the awards list.

Ooo, 3 movies in the next 3 weeks!

I'm willing to bet that the combined total of Don't Let Go and The Goldfinch is less or equal to IT: Chapter 2's first day gross.

God, I'm hoping IT Chapter 2 legs out through the next month until Halloween. Gonna have little horror competition, but people don't seem to like it

post thoughts....

Banks took a gamble in round 9
tranny struck gold in round 8
as did Weissac in round 7
I thought The Good Liar was actually Good Boys until a few weeks ago, damn
Either Shryke is bloody lucky or he's actually getting good at this
W got a little unlucky with his top 10 pick
Geezer picked well early in draft
Shaan stole round 3
and he's looking to steal round 4 as well
Looks like round 5 is officially the 'bust' round
I picked poorly, only luck (and maybe pick #1) will save me from humiliation
The top 5 picks are much better than the next 5 in this years draft

The Good Liar hasn't been well-marketed at all. Warner Bros. spent so much time pushing The Goldfinch that they've forgotten they even have this film (and unlike The Goldfinch, actually has a chance of being good).
