Yeah, but the draft must be some time in April, because of the May movies.

Standings are final on May 1st.

And if W agrees, the draft will be on April 18th. There will be fourteen rounds this time (to create closer competition).

Are there still only eight of us?

And I thought I would get a few weeks into May so that Fast Five could breathe a little. No?

It was already specified that you only got one week (it will still be a good week though, early estimates have it at $65 million). Maybe next year, we can add a derivatives section which tracks movies from last year that are still playing.

As for the number of players, we can do a sign-up sheet here or in a separate thread.

That was my impression too, Shryke. I'm sure it was agreed at some point to allow for a few weeks of May.

And if the draft doesn't start till April 18th, I gaurantee it won't be finished by the start of the new season, especially with 14 rounds now. It has to begin start of April at the latest.

Well, if the final standings determine the draft order, we don't want to rush into it. It all depends on how much jockeying for position still remains. Beyond that, I'll trust Buscemi's projections.

Plus, April is one of the few months this year that has five Fridays, so we've got a little more time than one might think.

Anyway, new standings.

As of 3/29/2011

1. Buscemi $1.290 billion (12/4/0)
2. Banks $1.106 billion (12/4/0)
3. Tranny $1.035 billion (12/2/0)
4. W $922.1 million (11/3/1)
5. Shryke $870.9 million (11/5/1)
6. Monkey $847.0 million (12/2/0)
7. Barca $806.1 million (11/0/1)
8. Surfer $752.5 million (10/3/2)

It looks like I've won as Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 was Number 1 this week and W's pick of Hop is extremely unlikely to catch me. The last spot in the draft has been clinched and depending on how Hop performs, the sixth and seventh picks will be as well.

Draft Outlook:

1. Surfer
2. Barca
3. Monkey
4. Shryke
5. W
6. Tranny
7. Banks
8. Buscemi (official)

Due to the debate on Fast Five, I'll extend it to May 5th.

As for the draft schedule, the last draft lasted from April 19th to April 30th, 2010 (one week before the season started). With an April 18th start, that will give us until May 6th.

Fourteen picks per person? If there are eight players, that means 112 total picks. Wow, that's a lot. At the moment, I can't imagine more than 80 or 90 films coming out that will earn more than $30 million. Hopefully one of my throwaway picks will turn into a Mike Piazza (who was drafted in the 62nd round, if you can believe it).

The pool is deep as usual and some films picked high will flop (Let Me In, Mars Needs Moms) while some films that aren't drafted become hits (The King's Speech, Black Swan).

What I did last year, if I remember right, is base the draft order on HSX's first four week predictions for the April films, but the actual standings weren't finalized until the end of May. I don't care how it works as I've basically given the thing to Busc, but that's how it worked in the past.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.

Yeah, but I'm sure there are dozens of movies that don't even appear on any date sheet at the moment. For instance, at both Box Office Mojo and Comingsoon.net, not one single movie has been given a release date in April 2012 yet.

That will change though.

And besides, don't trust Box Office Mojo for everything. They are behind on a lot of things (they still haven't corrected the distributor for Haywire or listed Apollo 18's new date).

I was bored today, so I updated the standings myself. (Hope that's okay, Boosh!)

As of 4/6/2011

1. Buscemi $1.306 billion (12/4/0)
2. Banks $1.112 billion (12/4/0)
3. Tranny $1.035 billion (13/1/0)
4. W $966.1 million (11/4/0)
5. Shryke $890.7 million (11/5/1)
6. UDM $847.1 million (12/2/0)
7. Barca $806.1 million (11/0/1)
8. Surfer $755.7 million (10/3/2)

At this point, all I can hope for is that the one week of Fast Five is enough to 1) Get me over the $1B mark and 2) pass W.
