Gosh, i cannot wait. Not. I think ill have to wait until Fall until i make my real mark with The Predator (its also a movie im very much looking forward to seeing, being a big fan of the original)

Skimmed through our slates and gonna give out some early season report cards:

UDM
Incredibles 2, pick of the season so far. Other picks Oceans at pick 2 is suspect, there were probably some better choices on the board at the time such as How to Train Your Dragon 3 or perhaps even Glass, time will tell. Also Life of the Party looks solid if comparing to some other choices made around picks 6-8. Upcoming picks Darkest Minds and Serenity are prob ok but only just. Crazy Rich Asians looking pretty decent.
A

weiss
Picks so far Show Dogs went poorly but at pick 14 not a big deal and Solo bombed surprisingly, if i had a chance to pick it i probably would have so hard luck there man. Elsewhere, last pick Wont You Be my Neighbor? looks like a masterful slice with bargain pick no. 16, it just saved you from looking bad. Coming up you have some nice picks in Hotel Transylvania 3, Sorry to Bother You working some more coin, another good bargain and Christopher Robin should earn some good numbers
C+

W
Oh W, things went from bad to worse eh. Hotel Artemis at pick 10 bombed hard, Godzilla 2 moved to next season, and then Jurrassic World is not going to repeat like the last one. At the very least The Spy Who Dumped Me could help things out, while Blackklaansman and Peppermint aren't going to get you into pole position, they werent high picks so you can hope for big numbers from your numbers 2 and 4.
C-

Surf
Big ends of the spectrum from surf, Breaking In making a splash at pick 11 was real nice but Action Point possibly the most disappointing pick we've seen in 3 or 4 seasons, but thats only 1 out of 16. A chance to recover with Dog Days, Mile 22 and then what i anticipate to be a real breadwinner; The Nun, its not going have It -like numbers but its definately gonna give you a boost.
B-

Shryke
Steady hand here from player Shyrkester, Avengers didn't rake in quite as much as you had hoped but the next 3 picks all look very solid in Eighth Grade, The Equalizer and Mission: Impossible.
B+

Banks
Ant Man 2 cast you off albeit without that thrust perhaps used up by Avengers and Black Panther, but at pick 2, can't really complain: makes UDMs Oceans pick look weak in comparison. Next for you is The Meg which im quietly confident about, Happytime looking like The Hitmans Bodyguard of 2018 so thats good and Hellfest, big ? there. Overall pretty solid.
B-

Brock
Brockster has probaby got the 2nd best pick of the season so far with Book Club, easily doubling expectations. Deadpool 2 and Adrift round out a decent start but surely were hoping for slightly bigger numbers from your No.1 pick. Upcoming flicks Mamma Mia should lift you again along with Teen Titans and Animal Crackers. Not bad at all.
B+

Tranny
Uncle Drew was a bust, Purge was ok and Skyscaper is firmly in the "still have no idea" category, even this close to release. Like surf, everyone gets a bust or 2, so im sure you're still in the race, although catching UDM with Incredibles 2 forcing out a massive gold nugget is going to be tough.
C

Nico
Somewhat hard slate to judge as theres been mostly low picks used. Upgrade was never going to be big, Hereditary not bad but not great, Superfly was a bust at pick 8, Tag questionable and probably disappointed with pick 5, Sanju meh. The next picks A.X.L from wire could be better than expected, Assasination Nation is a ?

but surely were hoping for slightly bigger numbers from your No.1 pick.
I think if you pick towards the bottom of round 1, clearing $300M is pretty decent. So getting $315M out of Deadpool 2 seems like a pretty solid first round pick to me. Now, had I picked it in the top 3, then I would have been slightly disappointed. I'm obviously pumped about Book Clubs performance so far, and mildly disappointed in Adrift. Was hoping it would snag me $50M.

For reference, last year the first round went like this:

Div. B:
1. Star Wars - 620M
2. Guardians - 389M
3. Justice League - 229M
4. Despicable Me - 264M
5. Spider Man Homecoming - 334M
6. Thor 2 - 315M
7. Coco - 209M
8. Wonder Woman - 412M
9. Pirates - 172M
10. Wrinkle - 100M

Div. A:
1. Star Wars - 620M
2. Guardians - 389M
3 . Justice League - 229M
4. Pirates - 172M
5. Spider Man - 334M
6. Despicable Me - 264M
7. Thor - 315M
8. Wonder Woman - 412m
9. Coco - 209M
10. Black Panther - 699M

I picked 7th this year. Obviously I would have loved a Black Panther or Wonder Woman return, but I wasn't expecting that when I picked it. Looking at the other films picked towards the middle or bottom of the first round last year, I'm very happy with 315M...seems about right.

Good analysis. Awfully early in the season but you can see some winners and losers all the same. Agreed the 2 best picks have to be Incredibles 2 and Book Club relative to their rounds. And Won't you be My Neighbor is likely the best 16th round pick of the year.

Seems to me like this year a first round pick that cracks 300 million is going to be a win. As much as the Box Office is "up" compared to last year, that's so clearly relegated to a few titles. Of what's still to come Captain Marvel might not be Black Panther but it could still crack 300 million. The rest? I'm doubtful any of them hit that number.

From my standpoint I do the draft hoping for 300 million from my first round pick - with 400 million being a real score. And then in the 2nd round I've looked for 150-200 million, especially since I draft early in that round most years. This year I was with UDM picking 1st and then 20th. We obviously chose well with Incredibles but I'm also really happy with Ocean's 8. With what was available - I don't know that there was a better choice. It won't hit 150 million, but 140 looks possible. For the last pick in the 2nd round I'll take it.

Ant Man was chosen.....

I agree with Walleye, I'm happy with how much Oceans has made for the 20th pick, there might be a few breakouts in round 3 that make more. but they could also bomb just as well.
