At least I got Girls Trip to help me.

And personally, I'm not complaining about Valerian. It's doing better than The Walk and Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (the latter might be my worst pick ever in the game, it looked like a hit on paper).

I'm actually beginning to seriously worry if I can recover. My first 3 movies all bombed, and only Megan Leavey was a super low pick. My #3 pick gets 25 million? I know everything has underperformed this year but I'm going to need a monster hit out of Wrinkle in Time, and something else to keep me in Division A, and that's just for 7th place. Glad it's a long season.

I think you've got some films with serious potential Walleye. You've got the new original Pixar, a Christmas musical starring Hugh Jackman, you grabbed a solid Denzel washington film in a low round, the new Ridley Scott film on the wire. You should be fine.

We haven't seen anything out of Roman Israel, Esq. (terrible title, by the way) and I'm certainly not buying it as an awards contender (Gilroy's next film being bought by Netflix seems to suggest this one's not very good). And Ridley Scott's new one might end up feeling rushed (I'm thinking it only got scheduled in December to beat Danny Boyle's miniseries on the same subject to the punch) or being pushed to next year.

Possibly, but they'll do fine. They may not do great, but they should be mid-range earners.
Not all films on our slates are supposed to be BO behemoths, sometimes doing just mid-range is already great.

Maybe you're right. But in the end, The Greatest Showman's going to prop up any flops (amazed there are people who still don't see this competing for awards, it's the ultimate Oscar sampler platter).

The most important thing in this game is not to have the biggest film of the year (although it helps, of course). It's to cash in from the most films of your slate. To avoid having films who make insignificant money. Having a consistant slate of film, earners from the first films to the ones you picked in the late rounds, even if just 25 or 30 millions. They'll add up in the end. As long as you have incomings from a wide set of films, you'll survive. You can settle with having 3 or 4 films not making money (like, less than 15 million), but more will put you in danger.
Each year when drafting, the films I'm aiming at the most are the ones with the potential to reach 50/60 million. It's the most challenging part of this game. Picking in the middle rounds the films with such potential. Those are the films that help you survive in the end.
I don't know why I said all that. I was just bored at the office.

True, unless you draft a Star Wars film. Then you can sit back and relax.

I think you should be fine Walleye. Unless one of your top 2 films flop. then i might start worrying.

My three openers have been pretty disappointing as well. So we'll see what my #2 and #3 round picks do, if those turn out flops, i might start sweating too.

Completely agree with Chien, my biggest strategy was trying to find films in the mid range that wouldn't let me down. So far, King Arthur and Atomic Blonde, have let me down. Even for 6th and 7th place picks.

Just saw King Arthur last night, no wonder it flopped. The reviews were being kind.

My #1 and #2 underperformed, having barely grossed $300M between them. I'm not confident my remaining slate will keep me in the top half. Thank God there's no Division C...
