I'm in favour. Just for this year, because of The Avengers issue. Why?> Because less choice of films with 250m+ potential imbalances the game. I prefer to see more high-earning choices to leve the playing field.

I understand Chien's point about being able to accurately track the numbers, but since it's this one weekend, and we all know it's gonna open at around the 200m level, we all know it's going to be one of the first 5 picks of the season. So not a huge disadvantage.

Repeating this post so people don't have to go back to the last page to see what Six is talking about....

In order to settle this, let's take a poll RIGHT NOW.

Who is in favor of allowing previously-released films to be drafted?

Any previously-released film chosen would only take effect beginning the immediate Friday AFTER being drafted. Any previously-released film drafted on a Friday or later will not have its take counted until the following Friday.

Because of the speed of the draft, it's likely only Avengers would be drafted, as all other films will likely have petered out by then.

Let your voice be heard now.

I personally am in favor of it. I hate that Marvel made this necessary, but we have to adapt.

I'll vote in favor of it. And since I'll pick first you can wonder as to whether or not I'll actually be selecting it if approved!

I'll vote in favor of allowing one-off exceptions to be made (upon a forum vote) but I don't want all previously released films to be drafted. I'm adamantly against making it a blanket rule for all released films.

I guarantee you that at the end of the draft, a bunch of stuff that came out 1-2 weeks prior will go off the board instead of TBDs or limited releases because they're an easily projectible $10M+. And the double digit rounds are the biggest part of the challenge and one of the coolest aspects of the draft. If we did this rule across the board, it would turn a portion of it into a math exercise.

For example. If I Feel Pretty follows the path of Trainwreck from Week 2 on (when it made $17.3M), it'll still have $25M left in the tank when we're drafting. That took me 2 seconds to project and I'll be able to tell if its legs match as of next weekend. If they don't, I can just put a scalar on it and recalculate. That's lame IMO.

I'm going to vote in favor. Infinity War is too valuable of a commodity to exclude it from this year's game.

I pretty much agree with Spectre on the subject matter. And I do agree with Six that adding it will make the year more competitive. So I'll agree with, as long as it's a one-off, and we don't decide to make it a rule that we can draft any film that already opened in April. We do it exceptionally for this one only, and not for all the films available from April.

Well, it would seem we have at least a partial consensus.

It would seem that the most logical recourse, rather than making drafting previously released films a free-standing rule, that we make an exception this year in the case of Avengers only.

Films like Rampage, A Quiet Place, and I Feel Pretty, though they may have a few million left in their tanks, will not be eligible for selection, as it seems clear that by 5/4 they will have made will over 50% of their total gross.

Fair?
