Once again, BOM only reported a handful of films, and most of those were rounded off to the nearest $1,000. So I will again hold off calling any film "finished" until next week, when presumably all the site's staff will be back from their vacation.

Predictions of final figures

Shaan: 1.275 B
Me: 1.210 B
Leetsu: 1.0 B
Shryke: 1.2 B
Jas: 1.0 B
Transformers: 0.98 B
Buscemi: 0.97 B
Walleye: 1.2 B
Weissac: 0.96 B
Ron B: 1.05 B

So by my predictions Shaan gets through with ease, and the remaining two places are a fight between myself, Shryke, and Walleye. It's going to be down to the wire.

Woot Woot! So glad I picked Rogue One. I really serious considered picking several others, including Fantastic Beasts. That would not have gone well. Too bad so many of my other picks flopped. (Ghostbusters, The BFG... barf)

At least those made money. Look at me and Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (can you think of a big studio film in recent memory with a more botched release than this one?).

I'm hoping your numbers are right! I think Beauty and Beast is going to help me a bunch, it's Kong I've got to worried about. And if Hidden Figures really surprises that makes my world a lot better.

I'm not really buying into Kong. When Universal announced it at Comic-Con, it didn't get the best reaction (of course, the audience thought they were getting Sub-Mariner) and Warner Bros. sandwiching it between Logan and Beauty and the Beast wasn't the best of ideas.

I'm not promoting myself here but I feel Logan is being underestimated. It's the last Wolverine movie with Jackman (remember, this is the role that made him a star) and with this one being much different than the last two, I think it will bring in audiences that have tired of the sameness of the X-Men series and want some development.

The Wolverine was very different as well and no one came to see that, i don't see Logan doing much better.

The Wolverine made $133 million domestically, hardly "no one came to see that". Of course, the bad taste of the previous film (combined with a terrible month for movies that July) was a factor in its underperformance (and personally, I felt The Wolverine was basically the first film but in Japan).

Logan looks to be as far from the previous two films as possible. They give him a story with actual meaning and it's going the Deadpool route of being an R-rated comic book adaptation (of course, this one will be a lot more adult than "gore and pop culture references"). I'm not saying it will be like Furious 7 or Deadpool but I think it can do a lot better than expected.

Meanwhile, when the last time anyone was really excited by a King Kong movie? The last two attempts at renewing interest with a big story were considering overlong and bloated (both did make money) while the last attempt at a sequel was a bomb with critics and audiences. Planning a universe with Godzilla is a step in the right direction but I'd be surprised if Skull Island became Warner Bros.' Jurassic World.

Boosch, I think for Logan I predicted 180m. I was originally thinking 125m or so, but the trailer suggests a very different film.

I would argue that neither Wolverine films were much different from the X-Men franchise, except that they were way worse in execution. But Logan seems more contained and more character-focused, in a very different way than the other films. Feels like an emotional farewell to the character, and that could boost its numbers. So yeah, I think it'll be the biggest of the Wolverine films, but just by a tad due to competition.

Looks like Moana is finally going to pull ahead of Doctor Strange and Fantastic Beasts - which would make it the 6th best pick of the draft - exactly where I had it pegged and where I took it. Which I'd feel good about, except Sing is going to pass it by! What the heck! Did anybody think that?

I needed 300 from Moana, and I think I'll get 250. Close, but not enough.

I did think Beauty and the Beast had 300 million potential and was hoping I could steal it in the second round, that ya'll would either undervalue it or worry about the possible late date in the game. Still banking on the Box Office now more than ever. And let's go Hidden Figures!
