As I understand it if you miss your pick you can choose any available movie when you do return. However, Leestu assumed that Ron would automatically miss his next pick when it came back round to him again. This was not the case so Leestu's Hacksaw Ridge pick was not allowed, enabling Ron to take his pick.

I'm going to take a chance on Bleed for This. Open Road has a sketchy track record with opening films, but this is apparently their Oscar-bait movie for this year and the story seems like it could appeal to a mass audience.
