I'll take civil war or rogue one whichever johnearle does not pick. Posting now so the draft can get moving once he posts his pick although I believe he mentioned that he was taking rogue one if he stayed in division A.

I guess we've started, so I'll take Star Wars: Rogue One.

I know there's a chance my turn may pop up in the next few hours, but I'm tired and I need to sleep just so I can go through all the nightmares of picking the wrong movie, allowing me to wake up and decide which was the least terrifying decision. Also making decisions when in this state may lead me to have something like Warcraft as my lead-off pick...

Back in 7 hours.

Guess that means I'm taking Finding Dory. Didn't really debate anything else here as it's by far the safest pick left. It's Pixar, it's a sequel to their most popular IP (that's still popular with kids today), Disney is red hot right now and Ellen is going to get a ton of moms and their kids to the theaters via her show. If it's decent, I'd be surprised if it wasn't around $400M. If it's really good, I think we're looking at the film that finally dethrones Shrek the Turd for the animated box office record.

Of course, this is the same guy who drafted the only Pixar bomb ever last year so... ;)

Whoa, didn't expect that honestly.
I thought this pick was a lock for 3rd.

And that pick is...

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them

Before DH2, the Harry Potter movies had plateaued at around $300M. Finding Nemo made $340M during its original run and that was 13 years ago. Plus Nemo is a direct sequel whereas Fantastic Beasts is a spin-off.

Don't get me wrong, I think Fantastic Beasts does well because both are still popular but I think Dory has way more upside. Even DH2 only made $380M.

Call me crazy, but Beasts was #9 on my list! I think it will do ok, but Harry Potter's not in it, right? I can't see it even coming close to the Potter movies.

With the gap between the last HP and now, I see Fantastic Beasts performing more like the original HP ($315M) than any of the installments.
Plus The Hobbit showed that the initial installment of a spinoff trilogy will do the best. It's a whole new thing (magic in America!), and I know that all HP fans will show up for it.

I like Finding Nemo, but Dory reminds me much more of Monsters University than Nemo. See it around $260M-$280M.
That being said, I was totally prepared to take Dory with the 4th pick, but I assumed Beasts would be 3rd. Glad to have it.

Okay, I'm awake. Quite possibly delirious from the terrible nightmares that this pick is going to give me, or maybe I've not woken up and picking this is my nightmare. Either way, this can't end well. Or can it? I don't see much upside beyond $300m for many of the movies left, of course some of them may, but the only one I really want, and one that will almost certainly be gone by the time it comes back round, will be the sequel to a movie I had the genius fortune to draft a couple of years ago much, much later than this round. I will pick (and featuring the same character for my lead off movie two years in a row!)...

LEGO: BATMAN

Right, back to bed. This didn't actually happen did it? And I'm going to pick something much safer in the morning, aren't I?

Anyway, picks as expected so far. Finding Dory would have always been my first choice in the 3rd slot too. Don't really agree with the Monsters University link, the adoration of Nemo from both young and old is much, much greater, almost at Toy Story levels. The excitement my 60 year old mum and aunts had when it was announced, the fact my work are already planning a work trip to the cinema to see it, and the fact it is a much bigger property than Monsters Inc have me think $400m is entirely possible, if not probable.

And the HP spin off deserves the fourth slot. It's not HP, but at the same time, I know a lot of my friends who are big fans of that series were whooping with anticipation when the trailer was released, and I suspect with it's family friendly slot that $300m is a given.

Suicide Squad is the big one. It could quite happily make just(!) $200m thanks to it's R rating and, bar the Joker, mostly unknown characters . But $400m is also quite certainly possible, especially in a post Deadpool market. I may have even picked it had I had fourth pick.

Very good drafting by all so far. Well, perhaps myself not included. We will see in a year or so...

I know, I know. But I just have a feeling. That and I just really wanted those two words, synomynous with my childhood, on my slate. The first movie was a big surprise, this one I don't think is so much of one. The teaser was hilarious, the franchise is already in built to an audience now, and it features the most famous character from the first movie. I don't see a downside. Well I do, but I don't want to see a downside. I just want Batman. And LEGO. Together!!

I really should not have made this pick at 4am, should I?...

I estimate $170M for that one. Course, I suck, so it'll probably make $300M.
