We even give you 32 minutes, cause we're generous, Empire

Thanks! Well, I'm home. This is the point where I usually fall into a rut, picking washed up franchises or has been entertainers, so I'm going to take a second. Shouldn't be too much longer. I thought about it the whole way home and I'm pretty sure about one pick, but the other is a toss up between about 4 films, assuming I haven't forgotten any on my list.

Don't over-think it, Empire. Your first instinct is usually right. Washed up franchises and has been entertainers are the way to go!

First, I want to thank Tranny and Aquamann for picking Ride Along 2 and Maze Runner 2, respectively. I would have had to give those serious consideration, and now I don't. Very sorry to miss out on The Revenant. That being said...boy there are so many, and I have to weather 18 picks before I get another shot...and a lot of my picks seem to be outside of the peak periods (summer, thanksgiving and christmas) but I like them, so...
In the Heart of the Sea. I don't think Warner Bros. pushed this to December by accident. Also, I've liked everything I've seen about it. Then...I just like ellipses...Everest. The cast is solid. It looks tense as hell. And, Baltasar Kormakur has a pretty good track record and is due for his first $100 million pic.
Thanks for waiting.

I very much had Everest on my radar for the next couple of rounds.

In the Heart of the Sea is a good pick. I might have grabbed it in the next couple of rounds had it been available. I think it's a bit early for Everest, feels like a 75/80 million dollars movie, despite the solid cast.
Ride Along 2 and Maze Runner 2 are solid picks, locks for $100M, especially Maze Runner 2, with the first one being very popular.
Trainwreck could be a great pick too, if the word of mouth surrounding the film is any indication. I'm still wary of Apatow.

Don't get me wrong, I fully believe that Ride Along 2 and Maze Runner 2 are in the $100 million zone. I just wanted to be able to step away from sequel-land and pick up something "new". Also, Everest may well be in that 75/80 million range, but it looks goooooooooood!

Your picks have been...interesting. Are you trying to lose your built in Star Wars lead, Geez?

I loved Black Mass' trailer, but man that is bold to pick it so early, when you consider the BO takes of Depp's last two films as a lead...

There's already quite a bit of buzz for Black Mass...it could break out.

I was considering taking Black Mass this round too. Depp has clearly been BO poison of late, but the trailer is excellent and Whitey Bulger is one of the most fascinating criminals in American history (OK that last part might just be my Boston-are bias talking )

That may very well be true. And for Geez's sake I hope it is. I'm just not going to touch a Depp film until Pirates 5 comes out, and I'm not sure I'll even do it then. The truth is, as his film choices demonstrate, Depp has never aimed himself at mass appeal. The Pirates of the Caribbean movies aside, he's always kind of been box office poison, just spectacularly so of late.
