ASM2 should top out around $210-$220. Godzilla will open smaller, but its legs might get it there - all depends on if X-Men cuts into its audience too much though. They've both been getting great WOM so far.

Yeah, in the end I was debating between Godzilla and X-men and had my pick of both. My guess is that Godzilla opens well but then holds really well due to word of mouth and Memorial Day weekend following. Personally I'm excited for both so they'll both be getting my money
I'm also excited for both, but if Godzilla is any good it might be a breakout success, I've heard from multiple people who don't usually go to theaters that they are excited to go see it.
I really hope that Blue Oyster Cult's Godzilla plays at some point in the film (or Alexandre Desplat works it into his score along with the Godzilla theme music).
Everything on this post is strictly the opinion and only the opinion of Buscemi.

I'm starting to second guess of Godzilla. I'm seeing predictions of $65 million. No way that beats X-men. Might not even beat Spider-man. I was hoping for 80 and then good word of mouth. Yikes.
The first opener of the season is always the most stressful. That's why I like to kick things off with a late round pick like Mom's Night Out or Peeples last year. If it flops, no big deal.
i wouldnt worry, early numbers seem very promising for Godzilla. The only thing that might dampen the numbers is if the movie isn't very good, meaning it could be frontloaded.
Nearly 10 million on Thursday night. That bodes well. Excited to see it myself finally. I liked Pacific Rim, and really liked Cloverfield, so maybe this is more my genre than I think. it will be interesting to see if this really does catch on as it seems to be doing.
