Re: 2014-15 Full Year Slates (Division A)
Really feel like I dropped one with American Sniper. Had it on my list for a very long time but as it was still in production thought I would hold off picking it in case it would not be ready for the season. Dropped the ball there!
Combining that with both The Wedding Ringer and Blackhat underperforming, not quite the start to my 2015 movies I wanted.

Yeah I must say I'm happy with my slate, and with what I chased for on the WW. And those American Sniper numbers make up for The Interview episode, most definitely.

Hohooooo I'm right behind you now Shaan !!
So I guess we'll both pass 1 billion next weekend with me taking the lead. I think about those early december days when I was second to last...

$4m for Blackhat! Guess Thor isn't much of a draw still. Looks like my backloaded slate won't work two years in a row. Need Cinderella to be huge if I'm to avoid a return back down to Division B.

I think Blackhat might have killed technology-themed movies altogether (after The Fifth Estate, Transcendence and Men, Woman and Children all failed). I wonder if Open Road is rethinking distributing The Snowden Files now.

Without In the Heart of the Sea, and no real credible replacement, I'm right there with you, Surf.silversurfer19 wrote:$4m for Blackhat! Guess Thor isn't much of a draw still. Up until last week, I fully expected to escape the frozen hedge maze that is Division B, which would have made me Danny Torrance, but when I suddenly lost In The Heart Of The Sea and my Hillsong movie, I realized I might actually be Dick Hollaran.

I totally thought I could catch Chien and challenge him for 2nd place, buttttt America had to go all RAH RAH KILL DEM MUZZLIMS and it looks like American Sniper is a lock for over $250M.
Now Chien's looking like the front runner and I'm gunning just for 3rd place at this point...

Not only does it look like American Sniper will pass $250 million (estimates have it at $200 million now), it is $25 million ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy at the same point and gaining on Mockingjay Part 1 at the same point (only $25 million behind after being behind $30 million in its first three-day wide weekend).
It will probably stay in first until SpongeBob or Fifty Shades of Grey opens and possibly remain in the top five into March.

Yeah, seeing how it dropped so slightly after its monstrous first weekend, the film will have strong legs. It certainly can, and probably will, catch GOTG and Mockingjay, as unlikely as it might have seemed.

I think Chien just wrapped up his win in January.
