The Official 2012-13 Full Year Draft Thread

Post by Shrykespeare »

It is time.

The long-awaited 2012-13 Full Year Box Office Draft is now underway.

First, a few ground rules...

1) Do not post a choice until it is your turn. And when you do, make sure it is the film you want to pick. Do not post a pick, then edit it later. Once a pick has been posted, it is final.

2) For the first round ONLY, you have 24 hours to make your first pick. In Rounds 2-12, you have 12 hours. If you anticipate that you may be unavailable for your next pick, you may PM or e-mail me a list of films that you want, and I will make sure that you are assigned the top available pick on your list.

3) You may not drop a film from your list until the draft is complete. Not that I imagine there will be much in the way of free agent picks to choose from anyway...

4) W and Banks ONLY: As of this moment, I am projecting Banks as the winner of the 2011 Draft League, which means W will pick 15th and Banks will pick 16th. If, after next weekend, it turns out that W wins and not Banks... well, I'm open to suggestions. Perhaps Banks could be given the option of swapping his first-round pick with W?

I wonder which will go next... The Hobbit, Twilight BD2, or Spider-Man? Or something else?

Ooo, I think taking The Avengers with the 2nd pick is kind of risky...

Not really. wouldnt have been my first choice as i think other movies have greater potential, but it will pass $300m with ease and could hit $400m. Its a safe pick, but not one which i think will go really big.

Definitely The Hobbit. The prequel to the Lord of the Rings movies, it's in 3-D and had a great teaser. Also, many early predictions have it passing The Avengers.

I wasn't going to name the movie, but yes, that would certainly have been my pick. The potential for the film is astranomical, and I would say it is also guaranteed to make $400m at a minimum.

Let's follow the rule we had last year: no naming upcoming movies. Obviously, it doesn't matter much in the first few rounds, but it will when it comes to having a pick that nobody else is thinking of, and then having it spoiled when someone mentions it off-hand.

That was a one time only thing. It's obvious that The Hobbit will be a top three pick.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about people being unaware of the freaking Hobbit. It will be the next pick.

Although I don't at all think it's a sure thing that it outperforms the Avengers. I think they have equal shots at 400 million and it's a coinflip which outdoes the other.

There is a clear top 4 in this class.

Wait... we're drafting now?

And I don't like the option of switching #1 picks. I don't mind drafting in either 15th or 16th position, but we need to pick one before we get there and stick with it. In the past we always projected and having the #16 and 17 vs the #15 and 18 really doesn't matter. And it's not the movie I pick being taken away from me, but being stuck with a movie I didn't draft. I just don't like the idea of picking something, then someone else saying "Well, you picked it, but since things turned out differently, you get what another player chose."

Does that make sense?

Think of it as being like the NFL, where the top pick can draft whenever.

Oh, I'm fine with it. I was just super confused because this is the first thing I read after a really long (family-filled) Sunday.

I'm still concerned about the second thing, though.
