Time to start jumping into some of this Oscar bait.

Goodbye Christopher Robin

Hopefully, it'll play to families as well as the usual arthouse theaters, and nominations for Margot Robbie and Domnhall can't hurt.
And this should get more traction and be more accessible than Searchlight's other Oscar hopeful, The Shape of Water.

I'd say The Shape of Water is more accessible. The last time del Toro did Oscar bait, we got Pan's Labyrinth.

Meanwhile, Surfer selects Molly's Game.

Well, Pan's only made $37M, so it wasn't very accessible in the first place.

Damn, I should've known Molly's Game wouldn't make it back around to me. All that conversation in Div. A

But is there really much interest in a biopic on A.A. Milne? The last Winnie the Pooh movie disappointed at the box office and this kind of reminds me of Miss Potter, that Beatrix Potter biopic that was barely released (and Potter is probably more well-known than Milne). I can't see Goodbye, Christopher Robin making more than $10 million to be honest.

Meanwhile, Guillermo del Toro is another one of those filmmakers with a rabid fanbase and keep in mind that Pan's Labyrinth was an R-rated subtitled film that made $37 million in 2006 (adjusted for inflation, it grossed $48 million). It was a monster on the arthouse scene and it won a few Oscars to boot. I'm not saying The Shape of Water will hit that number but half that is feasible.

weissac will need to return. His third title on the list was already taken.

And coming up after, the American Sniper pick (held by Ron). Will it make over $300 million domestic? Who knows?

One last confirmed wide release before I start diving into some TBAs:

I'll take the PG-13 horror starring a popular young actress from a popular TV show on Super Bowl Weekend and hope for the 15/40 of The Roommate. Sony must believe it in, they brought it to CinemaCon, which was unexpected.
