I sent him an e-mail. I think he's here, and his pick is probably imminent. I sent an e-mail to weissac as well.

Give me X-Men: Days of Future Past. They spent enough money on it, let's hope it recoups its budget! Was hoping to get the Hobbit but you can't win em all
Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)
For my first ever pick, I'll take The Amazing Spider-Man 2

I can't believe those two fell this far over here...

I had a change of heart for two reasons:numbersix wrote:Goddamit, considering Boosch said a few days ago that he thought How to Train would only be the #5 film of the summer alone, I was hoping it would fall to me.
1. There are already TV spots being aired. When a film is airing TV spots two months before opening, you know that it's going to have high hopes.
2. Not many family films this summer. Why has Hollywood decided to shun family films in recent years? First, Christmas has had fewer family films in recent years and now, this summer has an alarmingly low number of family films (between May and July, there's only Legends of Oz, this one, Earth to Echo and Planes 2). And seeing how well Frozen and The Lego Movie (the latter which nearly quadrupled its budget in its domestic gross alone) did, the decision to make fewer family films simply makes me confuzzled.

it's interesting how different the picks are already
Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)
I almost went with Spider-Man but the tracking so far doesn't make me think it can outperform. X-Men could fall short of it but I think it has upside with the cast cross-over (and the fact that it should be a better movie).Geezer wrote:I can't believe those two fell this far over here...

I don't understand the Godzilla pick. If it beats both Spidey and X-Men it will be barely, but it could only reach $125 or so. For me, Interstellar is a little risky there too. It could hit Inception levels, of course, but it could just as easily be Pacific Rim level.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.

I was between them and went with X-Men also, but at pick 4... Fact that they were both sitting there at 7 is a shock to me.Spectre wrote:I almost went with Spider-Man but the tracking so far doesn't make me think it can outperform. Interstellar going so high is the real shocker so far, at least to me, and I'm thrilled The Hobbit fell to me at #5. Considering it's the finale, I think it'll rebound a bit from the second chapter and outgross the other movies that were still available. Maybe not by a lot, but it should offer a bit of a cushion over Spidey and the X-Men, and Godzilla was too much of a wildcard for me to take it in the 1st round.

As long as Benedict Cumberbatch (whose films seem to underperform or outright flop) isn't in the third one, the box office should be an improvement.
