I definitely wasn't expecting a narrative version of this story.

But anyway, I'd be surprised if it did well, even with the leads. MMA movies have never taken off at the box office, A24 already covered similar ground with The Iron Claw (the first chapter of A24's 1980's Cinematic Universe), and Dwayne's audience tends to skew younger.

Sure. I was going to wait till the reports that it was aiming to be ready for this awards season got additional/better sourcing, but it's in production now and there are some other dateless titles that just started shooting that are already in the pool of available films, so there's no real reason to not put it on now.
