Wow, surprised you took Madagascar over Ice Age, a much more successful series with a decent premise and fun trailer.

Ice Age's release date worries me, I think Madagascar has a lot more room to succeed.

Madagascar directly faces Brave. And remember the last third installment of a DreamWorks Animation franchise?

It's got 2 weeks until Brave comes out, it will do it's damage. I think Ice Age has a much more risky release date with TDKR coming out the week after and it could be buried in the shuffle. They should do very similar money, I just like Madagascar's odds a bit more.

Why is it that everyone thinks that The Dark Knight Rises will destroy everything in sight? When The Dark Knight came out, quite a few movies did well against it. This isn't The Avengers, where studios knowingly put crap and movies with niche appeal out against it.

I think it would be foolish to believe TDKR will not demolish everything in its path, at least with movies which will cross its own demographic. I dont think Ice Age will be one of those movies, though, so I'm with you there. Animated movies should hold fine as it's a completely different genre aimed at a totally different audience.

Ted will be the movie released that weekend to suffer from TDKR, which will likely hit close to $200m OW and take top spot on it's second weekend with likely something in the 80-$100m region, only losing out to Bourne possibly in it's third weekend. That's a minimum of 14 top 5s in 3 weeks with likely another 5 minimum to come over the coming weekends. It will certainly be competition for The Avengers' no. of top 5's and BO.
