MOVIE #81

silversurfer - Aliens (1986) – Your second crossover with my list, surfer. Great choice. (10/10)

englishozzy - Cloverfield (2008) - Overhyped, only mildly entertaining. (6/10)

BarcaRulz - Dan In Real Life (2007) - I remember watching this film on an airplane flight back from the East coast. Not bad at all. (7/10)

Geezer - Hot Fuzz (2007) - Really funny, and the action was terrific too. (7/10)

JohnL - Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983) - And YOUR second crossover with my list! (10/10)

I'll recap everyone's picks later on.
Happy 60th birthday Jet Li! (4/26/23)

MOVIE #82

Shrykespeare: Eagle Eye (2008) – I liked Disturbia, I thought it brought the ideals of Hitchcock's thriller into the 21st century and had a likeable lead and a menacing bad guy. None of that was present in Eagle Eye and I was left totally bored. Which I guess suggests that no matter how much of a 'roller coaster' ride it may be, if it doesn't grab the viewer then a movie can just seem dull (read pretty much every Emmerich movie). It's strange too, as just before this was released I'd watch LaBeouf in Disturbia and Transformers, and Monaghan in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and I liked both as actors, but for some reason this just didn't click. I can't even remember why, which in turn suggests a problem, but it just felt like a run of the mill action movie with little to no feeling. (4/10)

silversurfer: Brazil (1985) – I don't actually own any Criterion edition dvds, six. What differences do they have to normal dvds? Is it just extra features? I think my copy of this is one of the earliest i as bought it about 15 years ago, so I think it's pretty much vanilla in terms of extras!

thegreenarrow: The Goonies (1985) - Great movie which narrowly missed my own list. We recently rewatched it on the big screen and it was a blast! (9/10)

transformers: Toy Story 2 (1999) - Although the story itself is great, I've never been able to get over my hatred of Jessie, which is probably why I have never liked this as much as the original, and not even the new one. Still, it's Pixar and Toy Story, so you know it is at least of good quality (7.5/10)

englishozzy: Kick-Ass (2010) - Again I need to watch this again to see if it still holds the same impact on me, and six's observations regarding the ending are a little jarring (and I guess that's because it's one of the major areas which deviates from the comic), but it was still a hell of a lot of fun and I'm hoping to get it on dvd for Christmas. (8/10)

Ron Burgundy: Starsky & Hutch (2004) - Really? I can only say I've ever seen this on a plane, and even then it was so ridiculous I only got 30 minutes into it, but man I really didn't like this. Cringeworthy at best. (3/10)

Buscemi: Sin City (2005) - Brilliant movie, absolutely love it and certainly one of the best comic adaptations ever, it captured Miller's vision to perfection. (10/10)

Chienfantome: The Dead Zone (1983) – I can't say I've seen this before, but I wonder which Cronenberg I will get with it. Some of his work I adore (The Fly, Scanners, A history Of Violence, Eastern Promises), while others I'm generally either disturbed by or just don't get (Crash, Dead Ringers, Existenz). Hopefully this will be part of the former, and with you suggesting it as accessible I have hope. (N/A)

numbersix: The Kign Of Comedy (1982) - Another movie I just haven't gotten round to watching, but fully intend to do so (especially with your recommendation as an influence of Curb Your Enthusiasm). Will keep an eye out for it. (N/A)

Banks: The Boondock Saints (1999) - Okay, I found it on dvd very cheap so I picked it up after all the acclaim on here. And to be honest it was a bit of a letdown. Some cool action scenes and Dafoe is riveting to watch at, but the two leads couldn't act themselves out of a box, and the moralistic ideas are ridiculous beyond belief. All style and no substance I'm afraid. (4/10)

BarcaRulz: Bubba Ho-Tep (2002) - I remember watching this with my brother in law a few years ago and it was a lot of fun, and Campbell is as enjoyable as always. Not something I need to see again though. (6.5/10)

Geezer: Aladdin (1992) - Looks like my one man vendetta against this movie isn't working. Maybe I need a different strategy to warn you all off this monstrosity! (4/10)

JohnL: Dazed and Confused (1993) - It's been a while and it's not my favourite Linklater film, but it did kind of hint at the potential he possessed, with a nice slice of teenage life laid out to view. I like the style of direction, the dialogue is informative and interesting, but I think he needed to step it up regarding the narrative, which is exactly what he achieved with Before Sunrise. (5/10)

leestu: Benny & Joon (1993) – I haven't seen it before but Helena said it's ok and worth the watch, so I'll check it out some time. (N/A)

W: Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004) - Y'know I really didn't like this. Not much other than Stiller's comic machismo anyway. The other characters were cardboard thin, unlikeable and the story had been done so many times before. Not much to say about it really. (4/10)

Not that good a round really...

I think that was the point of Dodgeball to make the characters paper thin. It's a parody, after all.
Everything on this post is strictly the opinion and only the opinion of Buscemi.

Maybe so, but I just didn't feel any connection with any of the characters and didn't get any enjoyment from the jokes. Maybe it was just me though and I was expecting too much being a fan of Stiller. I'd have rather sat through Zoolander though.

Okay, my round up of your picks...

Shryke: Well, my organised friend, I definitely think you're consistent in your choices. You have averaged 5.86, roughly the same as last round for me. You had some good choices, such as the under-rated Mystery Men and the soild Shrek, but most of your picks were unremarkable movies for me. The only one I really didn't like was Pirates of the Caribbean. However, I didn't know Better Off Dead and it actually looks funny, and I really, really want to see Angel Heart, so maybe they would have boosted your score ;)

SS: Well, my friend from the other side of the world, you had great picks last round, but this one you were even better. In fact, a ridiculous 6 films from yours picks this round have or will be in my Top 100. At this rate half of our Top 100 movies will be the same. Your films averaged a crazy 8.11 for me, which is a lot considering I rarely rate a movie 8 or higher. And as for the films that weren't in my Top 100, they were all still excellent films, such as The Red Shoes. In fact, the "worst" film from your bunch was The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - that's how great your round was!

the Green Arrow: Mrs SS, your picks improved slightly this round and averaged at a solid 6.75. Your movies may have been mostly mainstream, but they were some of the best examples of films that can appeal to the masses AND be great films. I'm thinking of films like Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, Dumb and Dumber, etc. The only film I didn't like was Sleeping with the Enemy, but the rest made up for that.

Tranny: Not a great round, but not the worst, you dropped to a 5.63 average this round. I love Borat and Toy Story 3, but I really don't like Gran Torino and The Fifth Element, so it was a mixed affair for moi.

English Ozzy: Slightly above Tranny, you average 5.67, not bad but not great. Besides Kick-Ass and The Birds, nothing really stood out for me. Plus, I find Lost in Translation to be really, really pretentious.

Ron B: Ron, you had some really solid choices, and Reservoir Dogs and Total Recall are classics. And of course there's the undoubtedly amazing Mulholland Drive, which I have watched dozens of times and still love. I found The Hangover to be a bit over-rated, but I will make an effort to watch The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. You averaged a solid 6.38

Buscemi: Boosch, while you stole the show with your picks last round, you dropped a little to have a still-respectable average of 6.75. I was very impressed to see somewhat difficult films like The Crying Game and The Last Temptation of Christ on your list, so good job on that. I think your average would have been a lot higher if it wasn't for The Hidden Fortress, which I find to be too throwaway to really enjoy. Still waiting for a real surprise to appear in your list, though!

Chien: Ah Chien, you had such a good list, but you only averaged 6.71. Why? Irrerversible, that's why ;) I can see why you like that film, but there's something very manipulative about that kind of shock-filmmaking that I truly resent. Still, everything else on your list was excellent, especially the endearing The Apartment and the incredibly moving The Killing Fields, which would have made my Top 150.

Banks: 6.38 for you, Banksy. I am Legend is the only film I really didn't like. Most of the others were solid (Full Metal Jacket, Hard Candy), but it was good to see the hauntingly atmospheric Taxi Driver in there.

Barca: You earned yourself a decent 6.14 from your picks. Trainspotting and Grosse Point Blank are two of the best cult movies of the 90's, and I really need to rewatch both as it's been a while. And major kudos for including Dead Man's Shoes! But alas I don't think The Two Towers works well in terms of storytelling, and V for Vendetta is a big disaster. Still, to make up for those two you did well ;)

Geez: A big difference from the last round, you averaged 6.5 for me. Even though I think the dialogue in Juno is awful, I love The 40 Year Old Vergin and you had mostly solid films around them.

John L: Interesting, you averaged the exact same as your bro: 6.5. Admittedly, there's a good few of your picks I haven't seen, but amongst the ones I have were greats like The Holy Grail and the Return of the Jedi.

Leetsu: Man, you have some sort of superpower at liking films no one else has seen. You should use it for good! You average 6.4 from the few I have seen, with On the Waterfront probably being my favourite. I bet your bedroom is full of Johnny Depp posters ;)

W: Dude, watch out, or you'll be the UDM of the film list ;). Maybe it'll be like your music choices, which vastly improved in the Top 50. You averaged the worst for me, at 5.33. Office Space was probably the best, but the rest were either ok (Spartacus) or awful (Sgt Bilko?).

Overall, 22 different films in my Top 100 have been picked by you lot, with SS sharing 7 in total. Everyone else has at least one film in both lists except for Tranny, although I'm sure that will change. I woudl say 3 films in my Top 10 have already been picked.

Here's a list of films I want to see based on your picks and descriptions:

Angel Heart
Koyaanisqatsi
Jesus de Montreal
Better Off Dead…
The Longest Nite (Um fa)
Blow-Up
The Treasure of Sierra Madre
Suburbia
Army of Shadows
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
The Boondock Saints
Election
Breakfast At Tiffanys

MOVIE #81

Shrykespeare: Dave (1993) – I wasn't sure I knew the movie by name, but the trailer certainly rang a bell. I think I remember it being quite decent, and Sigourney Weaver was great in it, and overall it was just once of those nice movies to have on it the background whenever it was on. I don't think it ever really stretches itself too far though and ultimately not something I'd seek out. (5/10)

silversurfer: Aliens (1986) – Yes six, I have seen the extended cut, it's on my Quadrilogy box set, and it's become the only version I only watch now, as I see it as the definitive version and really like the added family scenes with Newt. Probably doesn't add too much to the story, but I like a little more background on her character nevertheless.

thegreenarrow: Breakfast At Tiffanys (1961) - Very good movie, always a delight to watch with great charisma from both leads. How they got away with Mickey Rooney's Mr. Yunioshi impression was obviously of it's time, but nevertheless some great scenes (a favourite being the party shenanigans and the mask scene) and some cool fashions. (8/10)

transformers: Step Brothers (2008) - I remember Helena went to see this at the cinema without me and warned me it one of the worst 'comedies' she'd ever watched and just wanted to leave so went to the toilet to kill time. Despite this, I thought I'd give it a go, and my fears were confirmed in every possible way. The leads are so cringeworthy and unbelievable, the jokes are not jokes but rather toilet humour for 12 year olds, and the character development is non existent. They just irritated me the entire movie. I know maybe they are supposed to be viewed as immature because they had grown up as single children in their one parent families, but noone I know even bears a slight resemblance to the acts of Ferrell and Reilly. And to top it off the acting is atrocious, and I do like some of both two actors works and they've proved they can act in the past, but here it is woeful. Complete waste of time, would rather watch Anchorman. (2/10)

englishozzy: Cloverfield (2008) - You are completely correct regarding the marketing, it had me so interested in what the movie was all about so early into it's development and was certainly, along with TDK one of the best pieces of marketing ever. And the film almost matched it. Good call on the sequel too, totally unnecessary. (7/10)

Ron Burgundy: Reservoir Dogs (1992) - Excellent movie with a great cast, witty script and ultra cool music. Faultless really. (10/10)

Buscemi: The Last Temptation Of Christ (1988) - Can't say I've seen it, but the idea of Dafoe as an alternative Christ certainly interests me, will keep an eye out. (N/A)

Chienfantome: Le Petit Prince a dit (1992) – Sounds like a very powerful drama, and one I'd really like to see, I'll check amazon to see if it's available, but I'm not holding out much hope. (N/A)

numbersix: La Regle Du Jeu (1939) - Interestingly we just watched this for the first time last week, and we thought it was pretty good. A really interesting look at society and class, with some rip roaring scenarios to boot. (8/10)

Banks: Election (1999) - Great movie, Witherspoon is an absolute delight in this and even Broderick was bearable, and the script is so sharp and witty, with many moments like the freeze frame you mentioned sending me into tears. Great pick. (7.5/10)

BarcaRulz: Dan In Real Life (2007) - Watched this last year and it was ok. Carrell is likeable as ever, but it felt oh so been there done that, like many of the 80s comedies, and so ultimately a little underwhelming. A decent Sunday afternoon watch though. (5/10)

Geezer: Hot Fuzz (2007) - Not my favourite Edgar Wright movie, but there is a great amount of fun to be had watching this, with so many little nuances and quips. I love it's take on the old Midsomer Murders communities, with their "For the greater good" motto, as well as the crossword scenes: "Hag!, 9 down...". And with Wright's trademark direction and Pegg and Frost at their best hamming up the action scenes, it is a delight. (9/10)

JohnL: Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983) - Brilliant movie, even if the worst of the original trilogy. I love the opening scenes with Jabba, Rancor and the Sarlaac action scene, as well as the speeder bike scene too. (10/10)

leestu: A Night to Remember (1958) - Can't say I've seen it, but tbh I don't think it interests me. (N/A)

W: Surviving the Game (1994) - Hadn't heard of it before and the clip was decent enough I guess, Busey maintained my attention with his story, but overall I think if it's similar in theme to The Most Dangerous Game, I'd probably rather just watch that again. (N/A)

No great picks from me, Six. And I should give you negative one simply for including Do The Right Thing,

Banks
88. Full Metal Jacket
84. Shaun of the Dead
82. The Boondock Saints

Some very, very high regard from Geezer on these selections.

BarcaRulz
88. The Departed
85. V For Vendetta
83. LOTR: The Two Towers

Another great set, this was much better than the last round it seems, for just about everyone!

JohnL
89. Zombieland
83. Major Payne
81. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

Ahh Major Payne. That film was a huge part of our childhood. Will be coming up later from me as well.

leestu
90. Fight Club
88. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Not only a few that I have seen this time, but a couple I really enjoy!

W
89. Rush Hour
88. Joe Dirt
83. Office Space

Don't worry W, you will get no crap from me on these comedic gems.

Looks like Shryke takes the crown for this round, with half his selections earning a Geezer's Great Pick! And at least everyone is on the board now!

Tally so far:
Shryke: 8
Surfer: 2
GA: 5
Tranny: 6
Ozzy: 2
Ron: 4
Boush: 3
Chien: 1
6: 1
Banks: 3
Barca: 4
John: 8
Leestu: 2
W: 5

Shryke and John tied for the lead, with Tranny close behind!
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. - The Dude

My thoughts on the last ten:

Shrykespeare: Overall a decent round, I am a fan of quite a few of your picks, which are by and large very entertaining movies, though non of them made my own list. Strongest movies were Angel Heart, POTC, and Inglorious Basterds, though that was offset by Eagle Eye.

Favourite movie: Angel Heart
Average score: 6.8 (8 movies)
Overall Average score: 6.6

thegreenarrow: Generally some very good picks, though how a couple of disasters like Sleeping With The Enemy and An American Werewolf In Paris got there I don't know. Just the one crossover with my list this round, with the strongest movies being Braindead, Back To The future and Jurassic Park.

Favourite movie: Back To The Future
Average score: 7.6 (10 movies)
Overall Average score: 8.0

transformers: not a bad round, but nothing really spectacular either. Starship Troopers was my only crossover, but it;s usually when it comes to comedies we divide quite a lot.

Favourite movie: Starship Troopers
Average score: 6.6 (9 movies)
Overall Average score: 6.37

englishozzy: a round which certainly improved as it came to a close, up until that point I was kinda underwhelmed by what was on offer. Monsters Vs Aliens was not very good for me, same with Lost In Translation, Enemy Of The State and Ace ventura. Much better though with Kick Ass and The Birds though.

Favourite movie: The Birds
Average score: 5.7 (10 movies)
Overall Average score: 5.63

Ron Burgundy: Bar Total Recall and Reservoir Dogs, I'm afraid this really was a list to forget (though I need to watch Treasure Of Sierra Madre ASAP). Just so much mediocrity brought your scores down (as well as the horrible Starsky and Hutch), nothing that really set the list alight which is a let down after a decent last round.

Favourite movie: Reservoir Dogs
Average score: 6.56 (8 movies)
Overall Average score: 6.85

Buscemi: - Unfortunately I haven't seen too many of your picks from this round, but of those I had I like very much. Not a single movie rated below a 7 for me, and you also had the quite brilliant Sin City in your list too. Really want to see Koyaanisqatsi now though.

Favourite movie: Sin City
Average score: 8.14 (6 movies)
Overall Average score: 7.95

Chienfantome: – Again, another I haven't seen enough movies from unfortunately, and I've been wanting to see both The Killing Fields and Army Of Shadows for years, but i did like Elephant and love The Apartment, so I have high hopes for the rest of your list if they maintain that standard.

Favourite movie: The Apartment
Average score: 8.16 (3 movies)
Overall Average score: 7.83

numbersix: - You just don't know how to pick bad movies, do you! A brilliant collection once again, though slightly down on the last round, as well as quite a few to go on my must see list (Primer, Orphee, The King Of Comedy).

Favourite movie: Aliens
Average score: 8.75 (6 movies)
Overall Average score: 9.04

Banks: - Generally a very solid round, bar Boondock Saints and I Am Legend. Quite a few I considered for my own list and one which made it. Really need to see the Hurt Locker, I tihnk we get it on Sky in a couple of months so I'll keep an eye out.

Favourite movie: Shaun Of The Dead
Average score: 6.72 (9 movies)
Overall Average score: 6.26

BarcaRulz: - Another pretty strong round from you., with many i either considered and a couple which made my list. I actually watched The Departed the other night for the first time, and while I still prefer Infernal Affairs, it was a very decent remake and surprisingly Mark Wahlberg put in a decent performance (you seem to get 1 every five years from him!).

Favourite movie: Trainspotting
Average score: 7.88 (9 movies)
Overall Average score: 7.69

Geezer: - To be honest a very up and down round for your picks, with some greats like Hot Fuzz, The Silence Of The Lambs, The 40 year Old Virgin and Juno counterbalanced by Billy Madison and Aladdin. None of your picks made my list, unfortunately, so hopefully your first will come up in the next round.

Favourite movie: Hot Fuzz
Average score: 6.55 (10 movies)
Overall Average score: 6.33

JohnL: - From the movies I'd seen this was actually a pretty decent list this round, with favourites being Zombieland, Return Of The Jedi and Wanted. Don't think I'll ever be watching Major Payne though, no matter which Wayans' it is!

Favourite movie: Return Of The Jedi
Average score: 7.5 (6 movies)
Overall Average score: 6.63

leestu: - You know, I really wish I'd seen a lot more of the movies you've posted, as I have found I really like most of the movies I've seen on your list so far, so it just makes it all the more important that i see the ones on your list I haven't had the chance to do so yet. Favourite was Fight Club for this round, but good to see I'm not the only one who loves Big Fish.

Favourite movie: Fight Club
Average score: 7.6 (6 movies)
Overall Average score: 8.3

W: - Ah, W... All I can say is thank god Office Space made your list, because otherwise it was looking very dodgy once again, with the only other bearable movie being Trading Places. You seem to have a knack for picking movies I really really hate, it must be an ability!

Favourite movie: Office Space
Average score: 5.14 (7 movies)
Overall Average score: 5.15

Will catch up with the next round ASAP.

Re: Fantaverse Top 100 Movies of All Time (Thread #2): 90-81

Post by Leestu »

90-81 wrap up.

Shryke: A much better set of 10 in my opinion. Still no crossover with my own list but of the seven movies I’ve seen I enjoyed them all. Better Off Dead surprised me when I saw it because I didn’t expect much from it but I actually quite liked it, enough to rewatch it a second time a few years later. I remember loving Angel Heart when I saw it but that was when it first came out and my memory’s a bit hazy about it. I wouldn’t mind watching it again one day. But Mystery Men was the highlight. For some reason I am always disappointed bysuperhero movies, but this comedic take on the genre was so funny that it is probably my favourite superhero themed movie.

Surfer: Probably the best set of movies from this thread. It was good to see Cat on a Hot Tin Roof chosen by someone else. I honestly thought I would be the only one to have that as a favourite. As well as that movie three others will be on my list. Of the movies I haven’t seen Touch of Evil was already on my queue, Point Blank is disappointingly nowhere to be found on quickflix, and I have added The Red Shoes to my queue. I wasn’t interested in the movie before as movies about ballet don’t really interest me (the only one I’ve ever liked that I can think of is Suspiria) but I watched the clip you posted and the clip of part II and I think I’ll give it a go.

Greenarrow: Hmmmm, after a great start this set of ten was not so good. From the most crossovers on my list last set to none this set. Braindead or Watership Down is probably the highlight but Sleeping With The Enemy is the lowlight. I have had the misfortune of watching it twice and one of those was at the cinema. As to An American Werewolf in Paris it copped a bit of a bagging but I didn’t mind it, possibly because of Julie Delpy, but anyway I didn’t think it was that bad for light entertainment value. I haven’t seen Breakfast at Tiffany’s, it just doesn’t appeal to me, but I'll probably still watch it one day, and the rest of your picks are good without being great. Although I recently rewatched The Goonies with my kids and it didn’t quite hold up to my childhood fondness for it but still a good fun ride.

Transformers: No movies of yours on my list this time but all the ones I’ve seen are good movies, particularly The Fifth Element and POTC, but Dogma is the highlight. A movie I rewatch every now and again. Probably won’t bother with The Rundown aka Welcome To The Jungle or Step Brothers though.

Ozzy: Not much that appeals to me on your list with the exception of one movie that will appear in the top half of my list. Although The Jungle Book was one of the more memorable movies from my childhood, so I do have a nostalgic attachment to it.

Ron: I am liking your list so far Ron. Still only the one shared movie from your first ten, but I really like nearly every movie on your list. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Twelve Monkeys, Total Recall, Reservoir Dogs and Mulholland Dr. are all great movies. I even liked Starsky & Hutch, though it was a funny piss-take of the tv show.

Buscemi: My favourite movie from your list is The Crying Game. An excellent movie that probably should have been on my list. I forgot about it until Six’s comment about Irish movies, and since then I had been trying to find a way to squeeze it in, but I just can’t drop any. The Hidden Fortress , Koyaanisqatsi , and Blood Simple are already in my queue and I’ve added Blow-Up to it. All the rest are good movies. There is nothing on your list that I haven’t liked if I’ve seen it.

Chien: You haven’t seen many of my movies and I haven’t seen many of yours. Platoon is the only one from this ten. However I did start to watch The Apartment once ages ago but it got interrupted for some reason I can’t remember, and I never got to finish it. I will get around to watching it one day. Strangely I haven’t seen The Dead zone yet. I’ve read the book, seen most Stephen King adaptations, and have even watched the first season of the TV show but I haven’t seen the movie. I guess I should. Of the others, based on your descriptions/trailers, and of the movies that are available to me, Irreversible and Elephant are the movies I will probably bump up in my queue.

Six: Just like the first set of ten there are 2 movies from you on my list. I also like Do The Right Thing, Spike Lee’s best movie, and The King of Comedy is a great pick. La Regle Du Jeu looks good and I’ve bumped it to top 5 in my queue. I’ve also added Primer.

Banks: Your list has improved in my eyes since the last ten. We now have a movie shared on our lists and the majority of these movies that I have seen I think are decent movies, particularly Full Metal Jacket, Hard Candy, and Election.

Barca: I’ve only seen 4 of your movies, but two of those are on mine. So not bad. Only recently watched Grosse Pointe Blank and it was good fun. Great soundtrack too.

Geezer: Again one of your movies is coming up on my list. Lots of comedies on your list, which I don’t mind, with Juno (another awesome soundtrack) and Walk Hard being my favourites.

John L: Wow! Suburbia! I searched for that movie for a few months a long time ago, asking in every video rental store I came across. Finally found it though and from what I remember (I’ve only seen it that once) it wasn’t bad and worth the search. A bit rough and low budget maybe but still good to watch a movie about a counter-culture from back then. I apologise but I can’t resist; I found Major Payne a major pain to watch. Sorry!

W: Comedies seem to be popular this thread, but your best pick was Sparticus, your non-comedy pick. As to the comedies I should get around to watching Office Space, but of the rest Trading Places is the only one I really like. And Sgt Bilko, over so many great Steve Martin comedies like The Jerk, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Roxanne, and LA Story?

Overall nearly everyone has picked a movie from my list, with only Shryke and Chien yet to do so. But I am sure it will happen. Six and Surfer have the most with 4. Maybe there is a little something to this decent music taste = decent movie taste theory. As to my own picks I am sure more people will have seen more of them as we go on. I am sort of surprised that no one has seen movies like A Night to Remember, Nil By Mouth, and Once Upon a Time in China. They really are all worth watching

Wow, ive seen alot of your films, and just looking it up, i should have seen Dave too. Some great picks in there with Shrek and Inglorious Basterds, along with the film equivalent of pop music with POTC and The Mummy, both of which i love. Mystery Men and Better Off Dead are a little off center but nonetheless good picks, especially the latter. Well done mate

Well, after a pretty special first ten, you've gone for some more mellow picks, just in my opinion offcourse, i know Brazil is rated highly but its been a while since ive seen it and it just didnt slap me for 6 (thats cricket slang for you americans) Aliens is entertaining but i feel its nowhere near the first one, even though its a totally different movie. But Pulp Fiction, i cannot argue with one bit, its a classic. I really wanna see Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Point Blank now, even more so that both have been on 2 peoples lists

You were almost catching fire last round with some absolute classics, but like SS, seemed to have cooled down. Bout time Dumb and Dumber showed up though, i love that movie. Back to the Future and Spiderman aren't bad at all, but i just dont like them as much as i used to, and that was alot. Out of the ones i haven't seen Braindead looks sooo fkn good and i still dont believe i haven't seen Watership Down, which is a big shame, they will both make it high on my must see list. Solid

Just unbelievable, Die Hard with Willis and Rickman, LA Confidential with Crowe, Pearce and Spacey and then Sin City with Rourke, Owen and again Willis make for some of the coolest characters ever in my opinion. Ill be having a closer eye on your picks in the future. I have been meaning to see the last temptation for a while now.

Not bad overall though but i need to research your picks a little more after this.

Mr number six, not so much lighthearted comedy from you is there, but always a recommendation for a good twist or a study on drama, and i dont mind that at all. City of God is really a great movie and so is One Flew over the Cuckoos nest, one of which you'll see much later from me. While The King of Comedy i was glad to have seen recently, which was one of De Niro's superb performances, something which he lacks these days, not to mention The Deer Hunter which i havent seen in a fair while. You know what i think of Aliens, but i was a harsh judge before, its still got some terrific action. And to tie things off, im glad you mentioned Perfect Blue, because ive only seen the first half of it a few years back, i remember it was pretty trippy but also excellent for an anime. I look forward to your next choices.

Full Metal Jacket is such a brilliant film, Private Pyle is one scary dude halfway through the film. Hot Fuzz is great, so too Walk Hard. John, with some nice choice and then some not so nice. Major Payne is one i watched just recently and it was loads better when i was 13, and Dazed and confused was ok, but six said it best, it felt a little hollow, maybe thats what they were trying to achieve, you know with the drugs and stuff. Star Wars is an absolute classic and then Monty Pythons Holy Grail is just one of the all time greats; Bring out ya dead! Super Troopers is also a nice pick.

And ive wanted to see Picnic at hanging rock for quite a while, but ill make sure im not travelling out there first. Eternal Sunshine and Eating Gilbert Grape were some movies that didnt connect with me, not sure why because i really wanted to see them before i did. Anyway, im looking forward to your picks, there are definately your own flavour.

Some huge hits here, like Dodgeball, Rush Hour and Trading Places, but unfortunetly some sour misses, Sgt Bilko remains one of the worst movies ive seen and Beverly Hills Cop could have been lower if not for my inner child who used to love it. But yeah, alot of the Comedy genre. Surviving the game looks like some good old 80s over the top action, which may include cheese. But thats just how i like it, and so it moves onto the must see list.
