Tranny - I could see how this film is intent of taking the piss out of itself but for the most part i found it not funny. 6/10

Chien - One of my classic films, i just wish people percieved Kelly later efforts as enthusiastic as this, although Darko is his best film to date. 10/10

Banks - I enjoyed the film but nothing really more than that, nothing really stood out for me that seperated this from other films. 7/10

Barca - One of my favourite films this year, hilarious and inventive, Vaughan is fast becoming the new 'it' director. 9/10

A quick reply, ill send in my full report on 95-91 tomorrow.

LA Confidential, is one of my all time favs, you'll see that on my list later, awesome pick for Shryke and Barca

After a couple of picks that weren't what i'd watch, thegreenarrow has chosen some of the best of the best, 12 Angry Men and Oldboy are standouts!

SS holding up well with Requiem for a dream and then Starship Troopers, how could you think we wouldn't like such a great flick? Yeah, watch Minority report again...

Ozzy picking up 3 10/10's out of 5! Well done mate, Platoon, Iron Man and Lock Stock are also some of my favs, ill say why a bit later.

Boosh, doin well

Six, such a hard man to please. I think you top 100 films has much to with POWER

and thats all for now

Shryke - Fantastic Four
What a surprise indeed. This is exactly the perfect proof that comic book adaptation should not be handled by any director with a success on his filmography but by real talent. Bad film.

Silversurfer - Robin Hood
I haven't seen it in a while, but I've always liked watching it as a kid. I reemmber it perfectly, and it's a nice film.

greenarrow - Postman always ring twice
Unfortunately I haven't seen this version, I've only seen the Nicholson one.

Me, myself and Irene
Still fun. Not the best Farrelly, but very enjoyable.

englishozzy - Underworld
It could have been a great flick, vampires vs Werewolves, and there are bits of something good in there, with a good mythology created, but the the overall style and direction makes it bad, and the screenplay is very disappointing.

Ron - Die Hard with a vengeance
I largely prefer the first two Die Hards, but this one has good rhythm and a nice duo. Not bad.

Buscemi - Monty Python and the Holy Grail
One of the greatest comedies ever. This is insanely funny, insanely crazy, and I could quote it all day.

Chienfantome - Les Patriotes
Six, you won't find much action in this one ;)

Six - Metropolis
I have never seen Metropolis, but I have ni doubt I will eventually catch it some day !

Banks - Punch-drunk love
I haven't seen it since theater, but back then it melt my heart. My memories of this are so great I am not sure i want to see it again, I'm afraid I'd be disappointed. Fantastic choice, Banks.

Barca - LA Confidential
Still haven't seen it since theaters, still great memories from it, a nice noir film.

Geezer - Tropic Thunder
Well I love it. I have yet to see it a second time, but I had a blast watching it in theaters. Downey Jr. is crazily good in it, the lines are hilarious. Love it.

JohnL - Wassup Rockers
I'm not a fan of Larry Clark. I've seen most of his films, but they kind of all look the same. I vaguely remember this one and can't say anything god about it.

Leestu - ONce upon a Time in China
I've got it on DVD for ages and still have not watched it. I'm sure I'm gonna love it once I see it, it's highly regarded in France among the HK lovers.

W - The Island
Here's a film that could have been great had it not been directed by Michael Bay but by a director with an actual sense of direction and good science-fiction. Bay just wastes great ideas and turns the film ugly and bad.

#91 (sorry gotta be quick these days, I'll make longer commentaries from next week)

Shryke - The Terminator
I am not a huuuuuuuuge fan of the Terminator saga, but I still quite like it. The first one is the best, by far.

silversurfer - Dead Man's shoes
I've wanted to see this one, but it's nowhere to be seen in France.

greenarrow - Fargo
Amazing film, my second favourite from the Coens, it almost made my list.

transformers - Zack & Miri make a porno
It was just released on dvd in France, I'll catch it.

englishozzy - Platoon
Excellent war film, coming up shortly on my own list...

Ron B - Rambo 2
Only seen the first and last Rambo, liked them, but I'm not interested in the other ones...

Buscemi - Superman
Not a fan of the SUperman movies. Of Superman generally in fact. Too perfect a character for my own taste.

Six - Point Blank
Never seen it unfortunately

Banks - Blood Diamond
Pretty good film, nothing extraordinary though beyond Hounsou's performance.

Barca - Kick Ass
Seen it twice in theaters, love it.

Geezer - Last of the mohicans
It was in my 110-101 list, amazing adventure film, very spiritual.

JohnL - Friday
A friend of mine who loves it showed it to me a fews years ago, but I have no memory from it, nothing to remember.

leestu - Rosemary's baby
It's just been rereleased in Paris and I've tried to catch it but I still haven't !!!

W - Blues brothers
I haven't seen it in years, it's fun.

thegreenarrow - Fargo (1995) – I like the Coen Brothers, but I don't generally love them. This one especially. (5/10)

Ron Burgundy - Rambo: First Blood Part 2 (1985) - It's been so long since I've seen this I don't remember much about it. Had to go to IMDb for my score. (6/10)

Buscemi - Superman (1978) - Whether you like the Superman character or not, there's no denying that this movie was done perfectly. Donner took his job of adapting Superman's story for the big screen seriously, and it showed, a seriousness that wouldn't be given to another comic-book superhero until Chris Nolan. Reeve was perfect for the role, as was Hackman, and the effects for 1978 were top-notch. An excellent choice. (9/10)

Chienfantome - Donnie Darko (2001) – This is one of those films that I've always meant to see, but just never have. I've heard such terrible things about everything else the director has done, it's kind of put me off seeing it now.

Banks - Blood Diamond (2006) - Not an easy film to watch, but well-acted and well-shot. (6/10)

BarcaRulz - Kick-Ass (2010) - Great film. And yes, Six, there will be a sequel. (9/10)

W - The Blues Brothers (1980) - Well, besides possibly Caddyshack and Ghostbusters, is there a more classic 80's comedy than this? Great characters, great music, and everyone in showbiz had a cameo (even effing Spielberg)! I think this film set a record that stands to this day for the number of cop cars destroyed. And who doesn't hate Illinois Nazis? (9/10)

I'll post everyone's 10 films a bit later today.
Happy 60th birthday Jet Li! (4/26/23)

No. 92

Shryke
Fantastic Four - Enjoyable, if forgettable. The Four were cast perfectly, except maybe for Alba. Sequel was terrible.

Tranny
Me, Myself, & Irene - Great, funny Jim Carrey vehicle. That guy will do anything for the laugh, including throwing himself over the guardrail and down a hill numerous times.

EnglishOzzy
Underworld - I think people love the atmosphere here more than the actual movie. The setpieces, the uber-blue tint, Kate Beckinsale - everything but the plot is so fun to watch.

RonB
Die Hard With A Vengeance - I also saw this first out of all the Die Hards, and I do still love it the most. It'll be on my list much, much later.

Geez
Tropic Thunder - Loved it the first couple of times I saw it in theater, but after numerous re-viewings I realized that Downey is what makes the movie. Yeah, Jack Black and Stiller have a couple of funny lines, but without RDJ going full out as the Australian actor playing a Black man, this movie would be easily forgotten.

W.
The Island - Michael Clarke Duncan easily outshines everyone else in this movie with his limited screentime. It's a good time, and I can watch whenever it's on TV.

Right, so for my round review I'm taking a leaf out of Shryke's book and giving everyone an average out of 10. It's the onyl fair way considering the amount of movies I haven't seen!

By the way, where's NSpan these days?

Shrykespeare: Sorry to say, my friend, but your picks have only averaged 5.85 for me. But I think we both knew this would happen. You prefer your movies to be entertaining and visual, and there's nothing wrong with that. But I just find movies like The Fantastic Four and Bruce Almighty to be disposable, unmemorable, and ultimately mean nothing to me. Never fear, though, I love the Terminator and like LA Confidential, so not all is lost. Plus, I'm pretty sure there's two mvoies that will feature high in our Top 100's ;).

SS: Well, considering your great musical taste it's no surprise that your movie taste impressed me. You averaged 7.12, but you weren't the highest. But that's probbaly because I haven't watched Robin Hood or Sleeping Beauty in years. Good call with Dead Man's Shoes, an undervalued film if I've ever seen one.

The Green Arrow: Welcome (back?). Your films average 6.33 for me, meaning your picks were generally solid. Your intial picks like Rebel With A Cause and Drag Me To Hell underwhelmed me, but that was balanced against modern greats like Fargo and Oldboy, and classics like The Postman Always Knock Twice. Looking forward to seeing what else floats your boat.

Transformers: Well, it was interesting to see if someone I have little in common with musically could share film tastes. Surprisingly, you did, and you averaged a solid 6.5 for me. Comedy is very much your thing, and among some films I've no interest in you had great stuff like Caddyshack, This is Spinal Tap, and Airplane. However, I suspect if I had seen all of your ten films, your score would have been much lower ;)

English Ozzy: You averaged a slightly low 6 for me. Still, considering I give most films I see these days a 6, I suppose that ain't half bad. I don't know what you were thinking with Underworld, but at least you had Platoon and we shared the original Taking of Pelham One Two Three.

Ron Burgundy: A surprisingly high 7 for you, Ron. Why? Because of classics like My Left Foot and and Dog Day Afternoon, not to mention recent greats like Monsters Inc and Brick. Some great choices.

Buscemi: Surprisingly, your picks were my favourite of this round, and you averaged an excellent 7.55. Good on you, kiddo. 2001 and Monty Python's Holy Grail are two of cinema's greatest films, and Young Frankenstein and Mr Smith Goes to Washington are up there too. I'd be surprised if Inception and Star Trek were to last the test of time, but who knows? I will say, though, that your choice of films doesn't surprise me much, as they're all quite critically regarded. I'd be interested in seeing if your taste in music goes beyond the "accepted" list of movies to include
You probably watch more films than any of us (well, maybe not cinema-addict Chien), especially the obscure ones, so are they all inferior or do you rely too much on the views of others?

Chien: Ah Chien, Chien. I always respected your choice of movies, but I was very disappointed with your list. But onyl because there's so many I haven't seen! The Best of Youth is something I really have to see (but it's not easy to find a spare 6 hours for a film!), and Un Air de Famille looks great. Out of what I have seen I enjoy Close Encounters... Donnie Darko, and Zodiac very much, but because of Pineapple Express you only averaged 6.5. I'm sure that will rise once I see more of those films!

Banks: You averaged a reasonable 6.25. None of your picks disgusted me, though if I ever saw Grease again that opinion might change, but the amazing The Royal Tenenbaums atones for all of that.

Barca: It's 6.55 for you, which is a pretty darn good score. Your picks were generally excellent, with Pan's Labyrinth almost making my list, and recent films like Kick-Ass and Dawn of the Dead being solid. And of course there's the genius that is Raging Bull.

Geez: Like you said before, you and I appreciate cinema in very different ways. And that's evident in my average for you: 5.66, the lowest of the round. I will say, though, that as far as mainstream entertainment goes, you've picked some of the better examples (Cloverfield, Last of the Mohicans, Tropic Thunder may not be great but I do appreciated them in some ways).

John L: welcome also. A lot of your films I haven't seen, but I was impressed that you've obviously trawled through the world of underground music-film tie-ins to discover some interesting flicks. You averaged an impressive 6.75, mostly because two out of the four I actually had seen, Empire Strikes Back and Avil, are films I love.

Leetsu: You're even worse than Chien. For someone whose musical taste in great, I've only seen a meagre 2 films from your first group of 10! Of them you averaged a 7, with Amelie being excellent and Candy being average.

W: Sorry, dude, but it was a poor 5.75 for your films. We did share The Shining, so props for that, but not even that great film could compensate for films like Mom and Dad Save the World and 10 Things I Hate About You.

Out of this round 11 films picked by you guys are in my Top 10 (2 you know of already), nicely spread between 10 of you.

And the films I'm adding to my To See list:

Food, Inc.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Two-Lane Blacktop
Nueve Reinas
Un air de famille
The Best of Youth
Once Upon A Time In China
Rosemary’s Baby
Les Patriotes

I would like to comment on every film every day but as I am unable to do that I will try and at least do a review at the end of each set.

Shryke: Mostly your choices are movies I will watch if they just happen to be on, or if someone else is choosing the movie, so it seems appropriate that I've seen half of them ( I would probably try to avoid Payback though). Of those I probably liked LA Confidential the best, or maybe The Fugitive, and I do always enjoy watching The Terminator, but none would be a favourite. And of course I've seen the 2 animated movies, both of which were fun but rank middle of the pack in terms of animated movies.

Surfer: One of the better lists so far for my tastes. I have seen 7 of them, 2 were already on my movie queue, and I think I've already mentioned that I've added Peeping Tom. Of the ones I've seen 1 is still to come on my list, and the rest are pretty good movies. I've only seen Lifeboat once, and that was about 20 years ago, but it was probably the move that made me want to see more Hitchcock other than just his big name classics. I've only recently seen Requiem For A Dream and it was a pretty solid movie. I thought Ellen Burstyn was amazing, the music was fantastic, and interesting directing from Aronofsky, but the overly exaggerated anti-drug message was a bit too much for me.

thegreenarrow: I am glad you have joined us as this is the best starting 10 movies in my opinion and here's the proof: I have seen 7 from your list and 3 of those are still to come on my own list, Fargo made my 110, and 12 Angry Men was one of the very, very last omissions. That's 5 out of 7 that I would call favourite movies of mine, and the other 2 are great movies also. No duds at all, not even any just average movies, just all great stuff. And of the 3 I haven't seen 2 were already on my queue and I own Drag Me To Hell so I must get around to watching it. Anyway great start and I look forward to seeing what is still to come.

transformers: I love your appreciation for comedies. There has only been one on my list so far but there are some to come later, including 2 crossovers from your list so far. Good to see Sling Blade. I thought it was a great movie but I've only seen it once when it first came out. I wouldn't mind watching it again. I wasn't a big fan of Me, Myself and Irene though. Overall I've seen 6 from your list. Layer Cake is the addition to my queue from your list but I don't think I'll bother about Coach Carter.

englishozzy: The Taking of Pelham... is the standout from your list. An excellent movie that deserves more respect than it gets. It is one of 6 tfrom your list that I have seen and I enjoyed them all, apart from Independence Day which I really did not like at all.

Ron: I've seen 4 of your movies and one of those will be quite high in my list. Good to see The Wedding Singer on there. Growing up in the eighties I really enjoyed this fond nostalgic look at that era. and Adam Sandler singing "somebody Kill me" cracks me up every time I hear it. This is his best movie in my opinion. A few years ago this might have made my list but as time goes on there are more great movies to choose from and some fall behind. Minority Report is the probably the weakest on your list that I have seen. I really liked the story, but that's to be expected coming from a Philip K Dick short story, but I have a hard time watching Tom Cruise movies. I just never seem to relate to or like anything he brings to his roles.

Buscemi: A good list so far, with The Diving Bell... and Mr. Smith...being the best movies that didn't quite make my cut, although both were considered. But your best pick is Monty Python. I was thrilled to finally win a regulars league recently as I have had Monty Python picked out as my theme for a long time, so naturally you can expect to see this movie appear on my list. You will just have to wait a while....quite a while in fact. I am not really interested in the 3 I haven't seen (Two-Lane Blacktop, Robocop, and Superman) and Star Trek and Inception both disappointed me a bit. They were both movies that I was excited to see and saw at the cinema but neither lived up to my expectations.

Chien: I have only seen 4 of your movies; Open Your Eyes (so glad I saw that before Vanilla Sky), Zodiac, Close Encounters... and Donnie Darko; and all of them are excellent. I am interested in your French picks (and The Best of Youth) as I love to watch the best of cinema from all around the world but getting hold of them to watch is probably another story. I must get around to seeing Splendor in the Grass. I am a fan of the 50s era of Hollywood and the epic stories they told back then so this is a movie I should have seen by now.

Six: Probably my second favourite list so far after thegreenarrow's, and the only other list to feature more than 1 pick from my own list - you have 2, one of which places very high. Again I have seen 7 (that's the 4th time so far, it seems to be my average.) Good to see a couple of horror movies on there as I think of myself as a bit of a horror afficianado (there have been 2 on my list already, plus a horrific documentary). Man, I loved Naked when I first saw it. It didn't make my list but it is part of my collection and I am now thinking about getting it out and watching it again. A great movie and Thewlis was excellent as the anti hero. What stands out from your list I think (similar to Buscemi's) is quality. Your favourite movies so far seem to all be undeniably quality movies, as opposed to my list where I know some of them are not what you would call quality movies but they resonate with me on an emotional level.

I'll get back to the rest later, hopefully over the weekend, but if not I guess I have a week or so.

Wow, that first 10 movies went over fast, and there was both plenty to love, much to hate, and also quite a few movies which have been added to my must see list.

Shryke: I'd say you probably had a very average start for my tastes, with some movies I quite liked, only one I really loved, and then quite a lot of meh's. Bar Aladdin nothing I can say I really didn't ever like though.
Favourite movie: The Terminator
Average score: 6.3 (7 movies)

thegreenarrow: Well, obviously I'd hope I like most of your movies considering I have to put up with them at least one time or another, and to be honest this was certainly a decent batch. However, I've seen your next batch, so that run isn't going to last.... Obvious standouts were Oldboy, ET, 12 Angry Men and Fargo, but other than that there were some other very worthy movies which I do really like. The only one I can say underwhelm me a little was Chocolat.
Favourite movie: ET: The Extra Terrestrial
Average score: 8.55 (10 movies)

transformers: Hmm, although I generally like comedies, for the most part there were not too many of my own personal favourites which have appeared on your list so far, and even those I haven't seen I probably wouldn't ever seek out. Having said that Spinal Tap is an absolute classic, so I guess there is definitely potential for some crossovers from us.
Favourite movie: This Is Spinal Tap
Average score: 6.14
(7 movies)

englishozzy: I found your list so far to be a little up and down. only a couple I could say I really didn't like, while there wasn't not that much that I could ever really appreciate either. Favourite movies were certainly Iron Man and Pelham, but I can't stand Underworld and didn't really see the appeal in Waiting...
Favourite movie: Iron Man
Average score: 5.56
(8 movies)

Ron: The first half of your list had me very excited for your countdown, but unfortunately it's taken a little bit of a downturn of late. Some great films in your list though, no less Brick which just missed my cut as well as Monsters Inc, My Left Foot and a movie I've been really wanting to see for ages; Dog Day Afternoon (which has reminded me to pick it up as soon as possible). So I think there is certainly enough quality to keep an eye out for, just keep the likes of Rambo out...
Favourite movie: Brick
Average score: 7.14
(7 movies)

Buscemi: So far so good, a very decent list as of now. Maybe I'm way off though, but I'm not hearing much of you in your comments so far, it seems almost like you are picking movies which are regarded as great without really giving many personal opinions into why they are. I don't know, maybe it's just me, and I do know you have generally very decent taste in movies, but I just don't really feel a personal slant from your picks so far. Maybe that will come as we get higher up the countdown.
Favourite movie: 2001 - A Space Odyssey
Average score: 7.75
(8 movies)

Chien: Bar my surprise at seeing Pineapple Express and the unappealing trailer of The Fearless Vampire Killers, overall this was exactly the kind of quality list I would expect from you Chien. Some great movies and some trailers which have introduced me to movies I must certainly pick up ASAP. Splendor In The Grass has shot right to the top of my must see movies, while Best Of Youth certainly looks very appealing. Looking forward to many more introductions.
Favourite movie: Zodiac
Average score: 7.5
(5 movies)

Six: Exactly the quality I was expecting from a guy with such high standards for his movies, so much so you have outscored my own wife! I often see your reviews of new movies on here and wonder if you ever would give a movie over 7 out of 10, but having seen your list so far, I can now see what quality a movie must possess to reach these heights. Some absolute gems here with the likes of Dawn Of The Dead, Memento, The Shining and Point Blank. In fact there is not a movie I can honestly say that would rank as even average. Superb so far, keep it up.
Favourite movie: The Shining
Average score: 9.33
(9 movies)

Banks: Hmm, so far a very up and down movie, some very respectable picks, some downright ghastly. The first half of the list was very underwhelming, however, with picks like The Royal Tenenbaums and Slumdog, Blood Diamond and Punch Drunk Love, there is something to enjoy. But I can never, ever forgive Grease. Never.
Favourite movie: The Royal Tenenbaums
Average score: 5.81
(8 movies)

BarcaRulz: For the most part a very decent list so far, I'm very much so looking forward to what else you have to offer. Highlights were Pan's Labyrinth, Raging Bull (which just missed my list) and Nueve Reinas, and despite your inclusion of Kick Ass, which I find a little too soon to appear on the list, I can understand why a little as it was certainly one of the most fun I have seen in the last few months. Keep it up.
Favourite movie: Pan's Labyrinth
Average score: 7.5
(8 movies)

Geezer: Obviously a very entertaining list, if not entirely of the highest calibre. Some decent and some not so, but nothing I wouldn't expect from your tastes. Hopefully we will get more in the style of Benjamin Button than Rocky III though in the coming weeks...
Favourite movie: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Average score: 6.12
(8 movies)

John L: Hmm, really not very much to my taste here. Obviously we can see where the talent for spotting decent movies fell in this family... Other than Star Wars it was a very forgettable list, filled either with movies I don't like or don't ever want to see.
Favourite movie: Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back
Average score: 5.75
(4 movies)

leestu: Such a shame we haven't heard your opinions on why you have picked your movies, because for the most part I have enjoyed your contdown so far. Hopefully you can participate a little more in the near future. Some decent looking movies I have to see such as Candy and Once Upon A Time In China, although Europa Europa hasn't exactly inspired me, nor Purple Rain. So many of your movies which I have seen so far though are on my list, so I greatly look forward to seeing what will follow.
Favourite movie: Amelie
Average score: 9
(5 movies)

W: Ah, W, where as in the music countdown UDM suffered the most from my bile, unfortunately so far I have to think you have drawn the short straw. Other than the fantastic The Shining and the decent Blues Brothers, I was mostly either uninterested in your picks or horrified by them. Let's hope for a quick upturn.
Favourite movie: The Shining
Average score: 5.16
(6 movies)

Phew, now onto the next round!

Honestly, I'm not much for doing essays. I just like to tell it and let everything else do the talking.
Everything on this post is strictly the opinion and only the opinion of Buscemi.
