I'd suggest Taxi Driver as the (obvious) double-feature, but I assume everybody here has seen it... so:

I watched some of this defendor movie recently on tv, and it was a little disappointing, sorry Nspan.
The Assasination of Richard Nixon is one i never got through fully

As long as I'm doing some revisionist double-feature recommendations:
Nowadays, I'd definitely say
Defendor's most appropriate companion film would be the more recent
Super. Very similar movies. If you love one, I imagine you'd love the other.

I'd pair The Assassination of Richard Nixon with Zodiac, since both are set around the same period. Another good choice is Milk (Penn is the gunman in one, Penn is the target in the other).

Super is great, I still haven't seen Defendor, but I think it was finally released on DVD in France, I'll try and grab it. I'm not a fan of The Assassination of Richard Nixon.
