Ones that I'm not fond of:

Aladdin
Billy Madison
Happy Gilmore
Snatch

Out of those I'd probably say Billy Madison is my least favourite, though all those Sandler comedies are interchangeable. Only one of the top ten featured in my top 10, Empire Strikes Back, but seven of the ten were in my top 100 so it's nice to see most of our collective favourites are my own favourites too.

Can't wait to hear your feelings on Oldboy, Shryke....

Of the ones I've seen, I could do without:

109. No Country For Old Men (4/728)
97. Aladdin (5/790)
95. Billy Madison (5/815)
81. Happy Gilmore (4/964)
28. 28 Days Later... (7/3269)

I still can't fathom how shitty Adam Sandler like Billy Madison and especially Happy Gilmore got in over good Adam Sandler, like Reign Over Me or Punch-Drunk Love.

The movies from this list that I didn't really like are:-

Billy Madison
Inglourious Basterds
Fear and Loathing
Happy Gilmore
Forrest Gump

Also here are 5 that aren't dislikes as such but what I will call overrated in this collective countdown:

Good Will Hunting
The Lion King
Children of Men
Saving Private Ryan
The Matrix

Overall though this is an impressive list mainly full of awesome movies. Happy to see two of my top 5 as #1 and #2.

By the way I now only have 2 movies left to see from this list of 110; Gone Baby Gone, and The Apartment. The Apartment has been number 1 on my netflix queue for a while now but it has a status of high demand so who knows how long it'll take until i get it, Gone Baby Gone I will probably get in about a week from now.

From the list the films I've yet to see are Seven Samurai, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, and The Lion King. The first is the only one that's essential to see.

I'm sure you can buy The Apartment at a cheap price Leestu, and I guarantee you'll get the mileage from it as its one you can watch over and over without ever not loving it.

Of the collective 100 I still need to watch To Kill A Mockingbird and Once Upon A Time In America, but I plan to amend that in the very near future. Interesting to see that beyond the Sandler movies there is quite wide spread of which movies are disliked, and even then there are only a few which really repel us. So the majority of us only dislike 5 out of 100? That's a pretty good result.

I disagree. I loved all four of these films, but I'd say if you're talking essential to see The Lion King is a great film with a great story. It's like some kind of Shakespearian tale with one of the best original soundtracks you'll find irregardless of whether it's kid friendly or not. It's got one of the very best voice acting casts you'll find. It runs the emotional gamut. It won 2 Oscars, is #132 on the 250, made our top 100, and has a 92% RT rating.

It's a really good film.

I have to agree with W, Six. The Lion King may not be my favorite Disney film of all time, but it deserves its spot among the pantheon of their best films of all time, right up there with classic films like Fantasia and Snow White. It is very Shakespearean indeed, and though it is kid-friendly, it never gets cutesy-poo. I would agree that it is something you need to see at least once.

As for Sandler, well, I've seen Happy and haven't seen Billy. I agree, most of his early roles are interchangeable, and I only watched Happy because I love golf. It was completely ridiculous, of course, but since then it's become a guilty pleasure. (I love the fact that it also stars Jaws from the Bond movies, Action Jackson, and Lee Trevino in the background always shaking his head in disbelief.)
Happy 60th birthday Jet Li! (4/26/23)

I still believe The Lion King is "essential."

The Lion King is great, but I think that someone wouldn't really love it if they saw it as an adult.

And it's not just Shakespearian, it is literally Shakespeare - it's a retelling of Hamlet.

Ah, by essential I meant essential for me. I do acknowledge its importance in terms of critical and audience response. I would ideally like to see every movie form the IMDB Top 250 but I'm just never in the mood to sit down and watch a movie like The Lion King. Maybe one day.

What a fantastic couple of films to finish our collective Top 100. Holy Grail and Pulp Fiction. Two amazing films that appeared on my list. We really have great taste, guys ;)

To sum up our collective Top 100 :

- There are 5 films I have yet to see in this Top 100 : A Clockwork Orange (but I'll be seeing it in a couple of weeks, it's getting a re-release in Paris), Billy Madison, Do The Right Thing, Goodfellas and Casablanca.
- There are 5 films I don't particularly like, or just simply hate : Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Happy Gilmore, POTC, Snatch, V For Vendetta
- 31 of my own Top 100 appear in our collective Top 100.

I haven't seen these nine (except Alien which needs a rewatch and Once Upon a Time in America which I got halfway through):

88. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (4/896)
86. The Apartment (4/916)
80. In the Mood For Love (4/964)
78. Blue Velvet (4/992)
76. L.A. Confidential (5/1035)
75. Once Upon a Time in America (4/1056)
58. Alien (5/1645)
47. The Princess Bride (6/2106)
25. Trainspotting (8/3528)

Four or five of these are on Netflix streaming, so half of them will be done that way.
