Re: 2023 Festivals/Awards Thread

Also surprised by no Rebel Moon nominations, but I guess they're giving it the benefit of the doubt since it's very incomplete. It's nice that Dial of Destiny got some recognition. I don't outright hate Quantumania like some people do but I'm glad that it's getting trashed instead of The Marvels.

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Polite Society 7/10 Decent, overlooked movie. It's definitely different and original. For a feature film directorial debut it's quite well made with a unique style and rhythm. It's paced nicely, the main characters are charismatic, it's generally funny, and the fight sequences are amusing. Although...

Re: ShrykeVerse Top Movies of the 80's Countdown

In retrospect, I'd probably rank The Thing at least a few spots higher now. I rewatched it for the first time in a while during the countdown and it's damn near perfect.

Re: SIX TIPS, OR HOW TO PLEASE YOUR SLATE – THE FILMS OF 1/12

Honestly, for some time I assumed this thing was actually called "Mean Girls: The Musical" since transformers called it that in the trailer thread. Not only are quite a few people going to this unaware that it's a musical, but apparently that aspect just isn't very good to begin with. Seems li...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

New dates:
Mickey 17: TBD (from 3/29/24)
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire: 3/29/24 (from 4/12/24)

Honestly, it seems a bit silly for WB to move in right next to Ghostbusters, when GxK had April to itself pretty much.

Re: Best of 2023 So Far

I'm surprised at that Godzilla Minus One ranking, it seems like nearly everyone swears that it's a masterpiece and one of the best of the year. I'll have to catch it on streaming ASAP. Also, I do have Letterboxd but I've been too lazy to keep it up to date lately.

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

The Mandalorian will forgo a 4th season and instead be made into a theatrical film, currently titled The Mandalorian & Grogu. Since it was easily the most popular show that Disney+ put out, it should at least clear the low box office bar set by The Marvels. Especially since by then it'll have been w...

Re: Best of 2023 So Far

I can't stand Indiana Jones 5, I probably dislike it more than most people, who seemed to be largely indifferent about it. To me it represents everything that's wrong with these decades later legacy sequels, basically the complete opposite of Top Gun: Maverick. As badly as they've aged for me, I'd r...

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Saltburn 3/10 Not for me. This was quite the endurance test in all honesty. I pretty much hated all of the characters, they're walking stereotypes who are aggressively unlikable and have very shallow character development and depth. I also found it to unbelievably pretentious and boring throughout,...

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Wonka 7/10 I honestly thought the trailers for this looked kind of bad, so I was not in a rush to see this one, but a few people I know recommended this movie, so I went and checked it out, especially since almost nothing else is out this month. I thought this movie was alright and better than the ...

Wonka (Cinemark):

Arthur the King
IF
Mean Girls (commercial)
Kung Fu Panda 4
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
Dune: Part Two (shortened version of the teaser from last May, presumably the newest trailer isn't approved for a PG movie)

Re: Tranny Tackles The Cinema: The Films of 12/25

Aquaman 2 will imminently surpass the domestic take of The Marvels if it hasn't already, and unless it falls off a cliff after this weekend it'll manage the roughly $20M more needed to surpass The Flash. While it's by no means a surprise smash hit, it's safe to say that the holiday release prevented...
