Re: Trailer: Alien: Romulus

As expected from Fede Alvarez and post-Gladiator Ridley Scott, it looks like more violence and gore than scares.

Give Alien a rest, Disney! This isn't going to be for the series what Prey was for Predator or Rise of the Planet of the Apes was for that franchise.

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

I guess Warner Bros. couldn't get the distribution rights to the horror movie Christopher Nolan has suggested making in the near-future.

Re: SIX TIPS, OR HOW TO PLEASE YOUR SLATE – THE FILMS OF 3/22

First reviews for Frozen Empire have dropped. Not good so far (47 on Metacritic, with the potential to drop below Afterlife's 45 score).

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

Is there really going to be any interest in a director's cut of Rebel Moon? Given the terrible response of Part One, trying to pull a Snydercut and release a longer version would make no sense at this point.

Not even the biggest Snyder fanboys are defending Rebel Moon.

That's still a praise. An prediction is the same as an endorsement of something.

Re: Trailer: Furoisa: A Mad Max Saga

So. Much. CGI. It looks like a lower-tier DCEU movie.

And with your overbearing optimism on every big-budget action movie, Tran, you should write for Collider or some place where everything gets a good review.

Re: SIX TIPS, OR HOW TO PLEASE YOUR SLATE – THE FILMS OF 3/22

Sweeney fans didn't show for Madame Web. And Anyone but You's success feels like it was more due to there not having been a wide-appealed romantic movie in a long time rather than the leads (case in point: Netflix isn't really pushing Glen Powell's involvement with Hit Man, selling it as a Richard L...

Re: SIX TIPS, OR HOW TO PLEASE YOUR SLATE – THE FILMS OF 3/22

A troubling sign for Frozen Empire, in addition to its overly fan-servicey trailers that give little indication of what the movie's about, is that it hasn't been screened to critics yet. Afterlife probably didn't need good reviews to do well but I believe Frozen Empire needs good reviews to pass the...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

I've only heard of Bill Hader. Anyway, Shrek 2 returns to theatres on April 12th. I saw a poster on display tonight. Also on April 12th, the inspirational golf drama The Long Game is getting what seems to be at least a semi-wide release by a new label called Mucho Mas. The film premiered last year a...

Re: The Trailers Shown Before Other Movies Thread

I haven't seen a single trailer for A Quiet Place. Right now, it feels like Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire or Riddle of Fire (an indie fantasy that feels like a cross between Turbo Kid and The Florida Project) is the trailer before every movie.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread

Babylon got a 61 on Metacritic, which is the lowest green score possible. So it barely passes. Blonde was an exception but it was perfectly average on Metacritic with 50. But my point remains. If it's a show business movie, critics usually tend to like it. Especially if it puts show business in a po...

Re: Screening The Releases - March 15th

Dogman's opening on April 12th in my area. For some bizarre reason, they're doing pre-sales even though I can't imagine anyone being excited by a new Luc Besson film that's been destroyed by critics. As for Arthur the King, I think it goes lower. It's been on the shelf for a while, it was intended a...

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread

I'd forgotten The Fall Guy was even shown at SXSW.

Related to reviews, don't show business movies always do well with critics?

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread

Early word on Civil War is merely good, with the only rave so far coming from Matt Zoller "I Like Everything" Seitz of RogerEbert.com and Collider. Looks like a one-and-done in terms of box office. The only movie at SXSW seemingly getting any major raves is Monkey Man, but even that film has some de...
