Re: Oscar Nominations
They do that for the nominees but everyone votes for the winners is how I understand it.
And Boush, I'm talking about from how the race has shaped up so far. She won the Golden Globe as well as the SAG and the BFCA.

Re: Oscar Nominations
I would be shocked to see Bullock lose Best Actress. She's been gaining momentum, and the surprise Best Picture nomination for The Blind Side sealed it. Thought the race for the 5th Best Animated Film slot was between Ponyo and Cloudy, but I've never even heard of The Secret of Kells. The Hurt Locke...

Banks it was just one example out of many. Competition greatly affects the box office.

Re: Golden Globe Awards
Wow, some suprises here. Avatar winning Best Picture and Best Director, plus The Hangover and Robert Downey Jr. It always felt like the biggest movies were winning, but now Avatar is in good position to win Best Picture at the Oscars, even if he will probably lose to Kathryn Bigelow as Director.

Re: SPEARE'S TIPS - THE FILMS OF 1/22
I have seen several, several audience reviews calling it "definitely not a cheesy Christian movie." I don't think it will make as much as Fireproof, but it will still surprise most people in the industry.

Re: 1/15 Weekend Tracking
Yeah you can't follow the box office and think that movies can't hurt other movies. There are countless examples of movies having huge drops because of a similar big movie's opening.

Re: 1/15 Weekend Tracking
It definitely looks like Avatar will beat Titanic. Although you do have to consider the higher 3D ticket prices which helped it. Yeah but then again Titanic is only at #1 because the ticket prices were much higher in 1997 than when a few other movies like Gone with the Wind and Star Wars opened. Th...

Fox will probably get him to make Avatar 2 next, but then again, he's James Cameron. He makes whatever he wants.

Re: SPEARE'S TIPS - THE FILMS OF 1/15
Last year not only had Paul Blart break out but also had Hotel for Dogs come out which grossed over $70 million. Kids go to the movies over MLK weekend, and this is all that's out there other than Alvin 2 in its fourth week.BanksIsDaFuture wrote:No way Spy Next Door gets above $8M, and even that's being nice.

I think Tooth Fairy will be able to win its opening weekend. I can just imagine how people would react if Avatar finally got stopped by Tooth Fairy.

Man, Avatar is staying up there. It should be able to break the fifth weekend record with relative ease and probably win the MLK weekend.

Re: SPEARE'S TIPS - THE FILMS OF 1/8
Mel Gibson's return to movies will help out Edge of Darkness greatly. Plus it has an advantage over Taken from last year and From Paris with Love this year by not coming out on Super Bowl weekend.
