Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

Downsizing's premiering at one of the big festivals (Venice?) and it's been finished for a while so it's not getting pushed. And God Particle's been complete for a while. The only reason for its delay seems to be to get the IMAX screens for a week (I think it would have done decently at Halloween as...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

Odd that they're moving up Suburbicon when there's been nothing released for it (and they can't decide when to open Annihilation). A March date would make more sense for it. And does mother! even have a trailer out? With its new date so close and almost nothing out, either the new Paramount regime i...

Re: Trailer: Jigsaw

The use of Orbison's Running Scared might be the most original thing about this trailer.

And I thought this was going to be a prequel, not Saw done Sharknado-style.

Re: Look! An Undead Movie Column: New Releases of 7/21/17

Xenophobes hate anyone who's not exactly like them. Even the English. How do you explain the success of American Sniper and the Purge movies? There's also the case of ignorance. If it didn't happen to them, they feel it's not worth learning about. History classes only ever focus on the American side...

Re: Look! An Undead Movie Column: New Releases of 7/21/17

Rotten Tomatoes is a marketing tool, not a source of quality. It's a flawed system exploited by the studios (notice that it almost always punishes smaller films because they don't have enough reviews to get that "Certified Fresh" emblem?) to make things seem better than they really are. Metacritic i...

Re: Look! An Undead Movie Column: New Releases of 7/21/17

I think we're overestimating Nolan's appeal. There's a considerable amount of hate for him on the Internet (the same kinds of people who will crucify you if you say anything negative, even if it's constructive criticism, about David Fincher, one of the few directors who can open a film). In addition...

Agreeing with Walleye. Braughter's a TV legend (who else can claim to have been part of the John Munch shared universe and done a show with Andy Samberg?).

Re: Look! An Undead Movie Column: New Releases of 7/21/17

I think Girls Trip's really going to break out. Critics have enjoyed it and there hasn't been a truly feel-good comedy this summer. I think it can hit at least $30 million opening weekend (I'm guessing $32 million) and inch to nearly $100 million by the time it ends. I'm still not buying into Dunkir...

I didn't see anything wrong with No Exit. Of course, people would have then assumed it was an adaptation of Sartre's work.

Au revoir, gopher.

Re: Trailer: Only the Brave

How many titles has this had now? It was initially announced as No Exit, then it was Granite Mountain, then Granite Mountain Hotshots, and now it's Only the Brave. Something tells me it will get pushed again and get another new title.

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Paris Can Wait 8/10 Part travelogue, part romantic comedy, Eleanor Coppola's long-awaited follow-up to 1991's Hearts of Darkness is better than most narrative films from filmmakers who cut their teeth in documentaries. Diane Lane is fantastic as an unappreciated wife of a film producer who goes on a...
