Re: The Reel Society of Film Critics Awards 2012

I'm just happy to be able to share time on a site like this with all of you guys. Even if I don't always agree, it's always a good time.

So, as George Takei said (paraphrased), it's time to stop fighting against each other and band against the real enemy...Twilight.

Re: The Reel Society of Film Critics Awards 2012

I'm happy with RISE winning for sure! Gotta love seeing the sci-fi films win, as opposed to the safer Oscar choices...

Geezer wrote:Had no expectations going in, so I can't even say it exceeded them, but it was very good indeed. And that was EXTREMELY well said, frendo. Spot on to how I felt about it.
Thanks, buddy!

Re: The Reel Society of Film Critics Awards 2012

When Rise of the Planet of the Apes was announced, it was met with a mixture of fear and trepidation, the memory of a well intentioned, but utterly nonsensical Tim Burton remake still burning the eyelids of fans around the world. The first thought of many was “not again!”. Then James Franco jumped o...

Re: The Reel Society of Film Critics Awards 2012

Happy with the wins so far (loved Drive, Midnight, and Rise). Drive is just sweeping it up!

I do have a lot of watching to still do apparently (Tree of Life, 13 Assassins, Incendies, every doc except Bill Hicks...).

Re: The Reel Society of Film Critics Awards 2012 Nominees

Damn, wish I had gotten here to vote on time. I would have been with NSpan all the way with SUPER (haven't seen Melancholia yet...tried to catch it at the New Bev recently, but didn't make it). That being said, if you still need it, I can do a paragraph for Rise of the Planet of the Apes (I'm a fan ...

Re: Rising and Falling Directors in 2012

I have not watched the Swedish version yet, though I have it. I'm almost hesitant to now, due to how bored I was in the American version (and I really like Fincher's work usually).

Re: Rising and Falling Directors in 2012

I personally thought Dragon Tattoo would do better. I don't think it was the smash expected. I also wasn't a huge fan. Performances aside, it was pretty boring if you've already read the books (and there are plenty of films that I like along with the book, before anyone says it lol).

Re: My top 10 of 2011

1. Sons of Anarchy - Straight up best thing on TV. Possibly will become the best thing EVER on TV. A biker club drama that's a Hamlet adaptation. Brilliant. This season was probably the best. There were a number of episodes, back to back, that literally left me with fingernail indentations in my pal...

Re: Rising and Falling Directors in 2012

I think you're pretty much correct, Busc, but a few things: I think WWZ will do reasonably well. I'm a fan of the book, and not sure of what the changes are, but saw Max Brooks talk about a year and a half ago, and he said he was pretty happy with the script at that point. Frankly, even if it does s...

Re: Movies seen in 2011

Out of the ones you might see, I would recommend Black Death and Straw Dogs (a surprisingly good remake).

Re: Movies seen in 2011

I will say out of the ones I saw, I would recommend: The Company Men American Grindhouse Sucker Punch (though I'm in the minority on this one apparently) Rango Paul Black Death I Am Scream 4 Hanna Super Meek's Cutoff American: The Bill Hicks Story (almost mandatory if you don't know much about the m...
