Re: Trailer: Alien: Romulus
It was doomed as soon as Fede Alvarez was hired to direct. His post-Don't Breathe track record as a director and producer might one of the worst for any working filmmaker right now. Yes, it's poor, but the list isn't long enough to write him off entirely. I'll do that after I reluctantly go to see ...

Re: Trailer: Alien: Romulus
There's plenty of interesting directions to take the franchise, but instead this is more of the same. Pure fan-fiction. A crew on a ship terrorised by an Alien, with a strong female lead? Think I've seen that before somewhere.

Yes this is not good for the film's legs. Most tracking today has it in the mid 40s. I'm still expecting it to cross 50m but it may struggle to hit $100m if fans react badly.

SIX TIPS, OR HOW TO PLEASE YOUR SLATE – THE FILMS OF 3/22
The big bois are back, baby. With a generally disappointing Jan and Feb, thanks to everyone finally getting sick of Matthew Vaughn’s paper-thin shtick, and that hilariously awful line about researching spiders in Madame Web , March madness has so far proven positive. Dune Pt 2 has sand-danced its wa...

Oh someone somewhere definitely has a copy of Coyote Vs Acme which they'll probably release if disgruntled with a capital D

Re: 2023 Festivals/Awards Thread
six: How much did you have to bet on Murphy to win that much and when did you place it? The odds on the books over here were pretty shit once Murphy won the BAFTA, but he was a good value pick during that brief period after Giamatti won the Critic's Choice and it looked like it was going to be a re...

Re: 2023 Festivals/Awards Thread
Was a little surprised by the screenplay wins, as neither felt like the strongest of their categories.
And Emma Stone was a slight surprise, as odds favoured Gladstone.
I did win £100 on Cillian though, so I'm happy

You're not the only one.
I had a sneaking suspicion it would do well because kids have been starved of appropriate films in the cinema. Wish I had gone all-in on it

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep
Dune Pt 2 - 7/10 I very impressive sequel that tries to cover the dense first book, and doesn't quite do so. Once again Villeneuve captures the world perfectly, with incredibly cinematography and use of sound and music. More impressively, it never quite relishes in the war and battles, but instead ...

Odd, given how well Pearl was received. Perhaps it has a fest ready to go, such as SXSW

Re: Screening The Releases - March 1st
I think it was a hit on streaming, because financially the $400m global the first made isn't exactly amazing, but then again it came out when a lot of people were still worried about COVID. Deadline are predicting a global OW of $170m or so, which would be pretty impressive

Its Thurs number is $12m at the moment, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it hit anywhere between 80 and 90m at this rate

Re: 2023-24 Full Year Slates - The Shryke Draft
Agreed with Chien. I guess I missed that conversation too, but if it's coming out on separate release dates and sites like BOM and The Numbers are separating them, then we should too. Presumably, for the next draft we won't be lumping the Horizon films together, for example, as we wouldn't have for ...
