Re: Coronavirus Megathread

First trip back to the cinema since it opened last weekend. Black and white version of Parasite.

We were the only people in a 100-seat theatre. I asked the staff and they said it's pretty much like this. They're desperately hoping Tenet will bring people back.

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

The second it goes to HBO max it'll be pirated around the world. Plenty of countries around the world are dealing with COVID a hell of a lot better than the US (in fact the only country worse is Brazil). So it makes sense to do a late August release abroad and wait until later for the US. It's done ...

Re: 2019-20 Full Year Slates (Division A)

US is still looking bad. 10s of thousands of new cases per day. I'd be surprised if cinemas are back up running properly til Sept or Oct.

I still think Nolan is behind COVID, and this is all a stunt to make us anticipate Tenet. I am gagging to see it, and I didn't like his last few movies!

Re: What Are You Watching Right Now? Episode 3 - Turtles in Time

Yay, a debate! It's not easy. I was literally chatting about this case earlier today. There are so many issues to take into account. It was a single issue. He hasn't been accused of doing the same since. A huge amount of filmmakers support him The woman who is part of all this settled and said she w...

Re: What Are You Watching Right Now? Episode 3 - Turtles in Time

The Ugetsu Criterion is defintely worth getting as it contains a booklet which features 3 short stories which inspired the film, which is a great way to present a film. That said $40 is pretty high. I got it here for as part of a 2-for-1 deal so it ultimately cost me about £12.50 which is about CAD ...

Re: What Are You Watching Right Now? Episode 3 - Turtles in Time

More COVID classics Breathless: 7/10 Godard's debut is clever and experimental, and revolutionary in many ways. It doesn't quite stand up outside of its context the way Band A Part does, but it's enjoyable to watch from a technical perspective. The Hitch-Hiker: 6/10 Ida Lupino's noir is a tense clas...

Saint Maud hasn't been bootlegged/pirated yet as its UK release dates were also pushed back.

What a legend. You could pick his 10 best scores and they would rank amongst the best.

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Only the Animals: 6/10 Domink Moll's latest film may not have the strangeness of his previous work, but it's a solidly diverting story of a missing body, and how several different people with seemingly no connection are all involved. It's not so much clever, but rather well told. The King of Staten...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

The solution is governments just deciding they can't shut down the economy. They are going to eventually opt for that over human life. This is the world we live in. Trump is a prime example as he is now pretending COVID doens't exist, despite there still being hundreds of deaths in the US every day ...

Re: Best of 2019 (So Far)

I cannot trust a list that puts Child's Play in the Best list and Arctic in the Worst. Hmmm... I dunno, Velvet Buzzsaw is definitely in my 5 worst. Arctic is pretty dull and its 2nd half is way worse than its first. I also agree with Joker being a bad film. Phoenix is occasionally brilliant but rep...
