Re: Tranny Tackles the Cinema: The Films of 3/29
Immaculate was not a hit, despite what the Sweeney apologists might say. Yes, $5 million is good for an independent film but there have been much better results for horror titles. In addition, the costs of promoting and putting the film into over 2,000 theatres certainly cost far more than $5 millio...

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep
Late Night with the Devil 2/10 Another indie horror film that I can't really figure out why it's popular. Focusing on a supposedly lost episode of a fictional 1970's late night talk show, the film is largely a series of possession and Satanic cliches and faux-VHS aesthetic with an unappealing lead a...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
I'd say Pig and How to Blow Up a Pipeline somewhat fit a shift in philosophy as Pig was picked up more on Nicolas Cage's involvement than possible critical acclaim while How to Blow Up a Pipeline was going for a younger crowd than the kind of titles Neon usually releases. While not horror, they are ...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
It Lives Inside was one of their widest releases ever and it didn't even clear $5 million. It might also be the more uncharacteristic film of Neon's, seeming more like something Lionsgate or Vertical would have put out. And Neon is planning a big release for Longlegs, as noted by the July wide openi...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
Immaculate's probably not even hitting $10 million total, between its weak word-of-mouth and opening weekend that probably dips below $5 million, especially with Late Night with the Devil surprising with far fewer shows and better general reception. Anyway, the decision by Neon to go all-in on horro...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
Cuckoo has been moved to 8/9/2024 (from 5/3/2024). Neon must be going more for box office than critical acclaim at this point as early word is mixed. Edit: it is opening wide. With all of the horror movies Neon has released lately or are set to release, I have to wonder if they're going to launch a ...

Re: Trailer: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
I'm getting real Hocus Pocus 2 vibes with this one. Was anyone outside of people obsessed with nostalgia asking for this sequel?

Re: Trailer: Alien: Romulus
When it has The Girl in the Spider's Web (director), Chaos Walking (uncredited reshoots), Don't Breathe 2 (producer), and Texas Chainsaw Massacre (producer), that's enough to put a director in the same class as the guy who did Imaginary or the director of seemingly every Conjuring movie since 2019. ...

Scott is one of the producers so he more than likely had a lot of say in this one.

Re: Trailer: Alien: Romulus
It was doomed as soon as Fede Alvarez was hired to direct. His post-Don't Breathe track record as a director and producer might one of the worst for any working filmmaker right now.

Re: Trailer: Alien: Romulus
As expected from Fede Alvarez and post-Gladiator Ridley Scott, it looks like more violence and gore than scares.
Give Alien a rest, Disney! This isn't going to be for the series what Prey was for Predator or Rise of the Planet of the Apes was for that franchise.

I guess Warner Bros. couldn't get the distribution rights to the horror movie Christopher Nolan has suggested making in the near-future.
