Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
It looks like Janus Films might be further beefing up its distribution of newer titles. Steven Rales, the head of Indian Paintbrush and frequent producer of Wes Anderson's films, has bought both Janus and The Criterion Collection and has pledged to continue both labels' mission statements.

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
I was sure an independent would buy this one with Max retaining the streaming rights. In Zaslav's Warner Bros., it might be the least-characteristic movie on their slate of filmbro, toxic masculine, and nostalgia-aimed product.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
But don't they usually like films from French directors?
Anyway, Horizon seems to be a misfire based on the first reviews. Costner probably should have made this one three-hour movie instead of two.

That Blue Angels number is even more impressive when you realize it only played matinees.

Re: The Obituary Thread
Dabney Coleman, who seemingly appeared in every notable early 80's movie as well a number of TV shows, passed away yesterday at 92.

During her lifetime, Americans only knew Amy for two things: being the singer of Rehab and her constant legal issues. You never heard her songs on the radio and she was always overshadowed by the latest American acts (remember, this is when Katy Perry was essentially guaranteed a #1 song every time ...

Hit Man 3/10 Glen Powell stars in, co-writes, and produces a movie that tells us how great Glen Powell is. Everyone's new rich Texan "it" darling plays a guy named Gary (surprisingly not followed with Stu) who when he's not a dead ringer for Jeffrey Dahmer and being a popular scholar, plays a fake h...

The reported production budget is $300 million. How does a movie about Formula 1 cost this much to produce? Gran Turismo was a $60 million production and that was from a major studio rather than a middling streaming service.
You could have easily made this one for $100 million.

I don't expect Sony to go after Kosinski's newest, as it basically reads like Gran Turismo without the video game elements.

American critics are trashing Back to Black, with only semi-noted contrarian Mick LaSalle and a few "we like everything" critics giving it a positive review. It's seems like it's been a while since a biopic got hated by critics but then I remember Bob Marley: One Love was only three months ago.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
I'd be surprised if any major distributor is willing to meet Coppola's P&A demands of $80-100 million. A merely average sci-fi film with actors who are box office poison (Driver, Plaza, LaBeouf) won't sell outside of filmbros and with a lot of the on-set rumors about Coppola in addition to Coppola's...

Anyone remember when Mike Flanagan was going to do this one but it became a streaming series instead after he left the project?
