Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
It got that budget because Sony went all in on the Sinister Six after Spider-Man: Homecoming and Venom. It would have far more sense to just give the rights to the characters back to Disney and concentrate on future Spider-Man movies (where's my Marvel Tails movie, Sony?).

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
I'd forgotten completely about They Listen. Makes me wonder about that other Sony horror film that was shot seemingly years ago but remains unreleased, The Haunting in Wicker Park. As for Kraven, after Morbius and Madame Web, I wouldn't expect much from the next Sinister Six movie not featuring Veno...

Re: SIX TIPS, OR HOW TO PLEASE YOUR SLATE – THE FILMS OF 4/26
I only just saw a trailer for Unsung Hero last week and I have no idea who the audience is for this outside of Evangelicals. It looks like a corny knockoff of an imitator of The Blind Side. And I've never even heard of For King + Country. How are we supposed to be interested in a group that's suppos...

Re: The Trailers Shown Before Other Movies Thread
I think I've seen that MaXXXine trailer before every movie I've seen lately. I'm honestly surprised A24 is pushing it as hard as they have instead of making it day-and-date like any other distributor would.

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
Didn't think there was much of an audience for a Rosemary's Baby prequel, especially seeing how badly received the made-for-TV remake was a decade ago.

The Georgetown Project, a Russell Crowe thriller shot more than four years ago, has been picked up by Shudder and through Vertical, will open on June 7th with the new title The Exorcism. Yes, they're making it seem like a sequel to The Pope's Exorcist even though this one was shot first.

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep
Infested 6/10 What's this, an actually decent Shudder title? After consistently being disappointed by Shudder's theatrical output, I was somewhat surprised by this French import originally produced for Netflix. Though not entirely original, this horror film about a rare spider being brought to Paris...

You know, I think the Commanders should pick a waffle at #2.

Re: SIX TIPS, OR HOW TO PLEASE YOUR SLATE – THE FILMS OF 4/26
Word of mouth will probably be terrible though. With the exception of Call Me by Your Name, Guadagnino's movies have failed to get mainstream acceptance. The best case scenario would be equaling Bones and All's B Cinemascore, although that score was skewed by people who just came for Chalamet. Not s...

Re: SIX TIPS, OR HOW TO PLEASE YOUR SLATE – THE FILMS OF 4/26
Boy Kills World is opening wide. I'd expect a box office below the last Lionsgate release involving a mute protagonist murdering a bunch of people. As for the wide openers, I'd expect Challengers to play better than Immaculate, with that supposed box office draw Sydney Sweeney. Unless it's a big ten...

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep
The People's Joker 2/10 I'm honestly surprised Warner Bros. was offended by this. This glorified YouTube sketch is nothing more than an ego trip for its star/co-writer/director/editor, who could have had something if they had stuck to the basic concept of making fun of Batman and made it a ridiculou...

Re: Screening The Releases - April 19th
True but I still don't think it was a good move if A24 wants to be the next major Hollywood studio. International and post-theatrical rights tend to be equally, if not more, important than domestic and having those rights are important for long-term success. It makes more sense than the lifestyle br...

Re: Screening The Releases - April 19th
But seeing how A24 was viewing this film as the one that was put them on the map as a major, it still was rather foolish to sell the international rights. It reminds me of a lot of when New Line sold the international rights to the Lord of the Rings trilogy and lost out on millions, money that could...
