Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

I've only heard of Bill Hader. Anyway, Shrek 2 returns to theatres on April 12th. I saw a poster on display tonight. Also on April 12th, the inspirational golf drama The Long Game is getting what seems to be at least a semi-wide release by a new label called Mucho Mas. The film premiered last year a...

Re: The Trailers Shown Before Other Movies Thread

I haven't seen a single trailer for A Quiet Place. Right now, it feels like Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire or Riddle of Fire (an indie fantasy that feels like a cross between Turbo Kid and The Florida Project) is the trailer before every movie.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread

Babylon got a 61 on Metacritic, which is the lowest green score possible. So it barely passes. Blonde was an exception but it was perfectly average on Metacritic with 50. But my point remains. If it's a show business movie, critics usually tend to like it. Especially if it puts show business in a po...

Re: Screening The Releases - March 15th

Dogman's opening on April 12th in my area. For some bizarre reason, they're doing pre-sales even though I can't imagine anyone being excited by a new Luc Besson film that's been destroyed by critics. As for Arthur the King, I think it goes lower. It's been on the shelf for a while, it was intended a...

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread

I'd forgotten The Fall Guy was even shown at SXSW.

Related to reviews, don't show business movies always do well with critics?

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread

Early word on Civil War is merely good, with the only rave so far coming from Matt Zoller "I Like Everything" Seitz of RogerEbert.com and Collider. Looks like a one-and-done in terms of box office. The only movie at SXSW seemingly getting any major raves is Monkey Man, but even that film has some de...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

I mean, it feels as if they pad out their slates with Jason Blum or David Leitch-produced titles and aren't even trying to do anything different when it's not a big tentpole. Sure, you also have Monkeypaw but Blum had a hand in that company being formed.

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

Doesn't it feel like every Universal title now is a Blumhouse title or an 87North title?

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

It's been on the shelf for a while and since Poor Things won several Oscars, Disney probably wants to cash in on recent success rather than keep it unavailable for longer. And that's a terrible title. Kinds of Kindness sounds like a Hallmark Channel movie. With And, you could cut a pretty good tease...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

I'd figure the A24 titles that already have IMAX masters (The Disaster Artist, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Pi, Beau is Afraid, Stop Making Sense) will be included. The main reason why Ex Machina is getting a blow-up is because it will have an extended trailer/making-of featurette for Civil Wa...

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Nimona 2/10 How was this nominated for an Oscar? This Disney reject that ended up being finished by Netflix might be one of the least original big budget films I've ever seen, with ideas, scenes, and even plotlines lifted from far better movies. In addition, the animation is dreadful, the characters...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

I can't imagine more than a few theatres will do this, as a first-run IMAX title would win out 99 times out of 100. Even on a slower night like Wednesday.

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Io Capitano 8/10 Matteo Garrone's Oscar-nominated drama about a pair of teens who make the journey from Senegal to Italy to start a new life is a harrowing account of what people will do to get to fulfill their dreams, no matter the cost. The premise of immigration is not a new concept for a movie b...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

Speaking of Warner Bros., Final Destination 6 is in production, nearly thirteen years after it was first announced.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just reboot it at this point?
