Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

The People's Joker 2/10 I'm honestly surprised Warner Bros. was offended by this. This glorified YouTube sketch is nothing more than an ego trip for its star/co-writer/director/editor, who could have had something if they had stuck to the basic concept of making fun of Batman and made it a ridiculou...

Re: Screening The Releases - April 19th

True but I still don't think it was a good move if A24 wants to be the next major Hollywood studio. International and post-theatrical rights tend to be equally, if not more, important than domestic and having those rights are important for long-term success. It makes more sense than the lifestyle br...

Re: Screening The Releases - April 19th

But seeing how A24 was viewing this film as the one that was put them on the map as a major, it still was rather foolish to sell the international rights. It reminds me of a lot of when New Line sold the international rights to the Lord of the Rings trilogy and lost out on millions, money that could...

Re: Screening The Releases - April 19th

Sasquatch Sunset bombed in its wide expansion, making only $453,000 in 856 theatres. This would have made more sense as a day-and-date title. And while it looks like Civil War will surpass our expectations, it looks to still be a big money loser as its international start hasn't been the most promis...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

Hit Man hits theatres on Memorial Day weekend before hitting Netflix. Let's hope they cut a better trailer that doesn't make it look like a forgettable 2000's rom-com before then.

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

The Avatar: The Last Airbender animated movie has been pushed to 1/30/2026 (from 10/10/2025). Speaking of Paramount, Interestellar will be reissued on 9/27/2024, mostly likely exclusive to IMAX 70mm and standard 70mm because Nolanbros are lemmings who brag about taking long flights just to see a mov...

Re: Screening The Releases - April 19th

How do you explain the current push towards Universal making David Leitch their new golden boy then? It feels as if they want to get away from Jason Blum's type of movie as they usually don't have full ownership of them and the losses of The Exorcist will be felt for some time as any slight profit t...

Re: Trailer: Trap

Pretty much anyone who's Snydercut defends Zaslav for listening to their every whim. Indiewire wrote a puff piece a while back which called Zaslav Paramount's savior (obviously, this didn't happen as anyone who's looked at Warner Bros.' debtload would know that proposed merger was nothing but talk)....

Re: Screening The Releases - April 19th

Looks like Abigail has ended Radio Silence's hot streak. And between this and Night Swim, could Universal be rethinking horror? It feels like those two weren't pushed very hard (and the latter's general reception didn't help things).

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

A 50 on Metacritic isn't very good, especially given how heavily Universal is promoting it.

But then again, the similarly-panned Bohemian Rhapsody was a box office monster.

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Deep Sky 8/10 Sneaking into IMAX theatres this weekend is an entertaining documentary about the James Webb Space Telescope, the years of work it took to build it, the scientists and engineers who worked on it, and the successful launch leading to some of the recent discoveries of the galaxy. The ima...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

I wonder if Universal might rethink releasing Back in Black wide. Early word isn't good.

Re: Trailer: Trap

At this point, just don't question anything Warner Bros. does. Things haven't made sense there ever since they let the trolls win by making the Snydercut happen.

We'll save a lot of time and energy by just moving on and ignoring the Zaslavbros.

Re: Screening The Releases - April 19th

Stress Positions has gotten rather mixed reviews and COVID-themed movies never took off. I don't even think it manages a third of that number. As for the wide releases, Lionsgate really missed the boat with Ministry by not starting the ad campaign earlier. Sure, reviews haven't been great but it see...
