Re: What Are You Watching Right Now? Episode 3 - Turtles in Time

A little light on the rep scene lately, as it's mostly been things that I've seen in the theatre in the past. Rushmore - I wish Wes Anderson would make another film like this one. There's something about his smaller, intimate pieces that makes you realize that he has a strong ability to create these...

Not me. If I wanted to watch Illumination titles, I'd go to Netflix.

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Over the Moon 3/10 Who at Netflix decided that this would be a big Oscar contender? This cheap-looking knockoff of the Disney Renaissance films has none of the magic and all of the cliches from those titles, with the added bonus of a convoluted plot that's certain to confuse the target audience. The...

Now let's see if Blumhouse will ever release their long-delayed Naomi Watts film (which I believe also has Frank Grillo). It was shot like three years ago.

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Spontaneous 2/10 I can see why Paramount was so embarrassed by this film that they barely released it and left their name off of the final product (instead, it's credited to the moribund Internet label Awesomeness). Sold as a horror comedy, this is actually nothing more than an R-rated Disney Channe...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch

In what shouldn't be a surprise, whether COVID-related or the results of the last time Simon Kinberg directed Jessica Chastain, The 355 has been pushed back a whole year to 1/14/2022. Who wants to bet this ends up getting sold to a streamer? Netflix seems to think Chastain will get it back together ...

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Sound of Metal 9/10 I don't think I'm going to see a better performance this year than Riz Ahmed's performance here. The film might be the most eye-opening depiction of deaf culture I've ever seen, going deep into what it's like to be deaf and the community that represents it. Even some of the more ...

Re: The Trailers Shown Before Other Movies Thread

Looks like it's opening on December 4th. This edit is 11 minutes shorter than the director's cut that's long been available on home video and four minutes shorter than the theatrical cut.

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Wolfwalkers 9/10 Apple's first animated film might be better than any similar movies Netflix has put out. Though the premise is somewhat similar to the filmmakers' previous Song of the Sea, the beautiful 2D animation and storytelling manages to put this one ahead of that and makes it comparable to s...

I thought the theatrical run of The Death of Michael Corleone had been canceled. I'd only been seeing a digital and Blu-ray date for it.

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep

Misbehaviour 4/10 A good concept for a film (the 1970 Miss World protests) gets undermined by one-dimensional characters and a scattershot focus that can't seem to figure out whether to focus on the protestors or the contestants or even Bob Hope (of which the script seems to be too scared to really ...

Sony is capitalizing on the Wonder Woman move by moving up Monster Hunter to Christmas Day. Sony has also slotted Peter Rabbit 2 for 4/2/2021 and moved Fatherhood back two weeks to 4/16/2021.

Ammonite 8/10 If Jurassic Park had been like Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Kate Winslet does well as a paleontologist who has to nurse an invalid (Saoirse Ronan) back to health while her husband goes away. Soon, the two begin a relationship that changes both of their lives, mostly for the better. Amon...

Re: Spitballin'

I know no one reads these but I have an idea for HBO Max. The Adventures of Lily AT&T spokesgirl Lily is your ordinary character designed to sell products and services. But suddenly, the world of AT&T pitches comes crashing down when corporate decides to kill off the character to cut costs. As the t...
