Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep
It's Such a Beautiful Day was recently reissued with a new short film before the movie and you have to wonder what Don Hertzfeldt was thinking with it. Now, Hertzfeldt is known for having a out-there sense of storytelling but with Me, it feels like he is gunning solely for an Oscar. This humorless s...

Re: Screening The Releases - May 31st
The second weekend box office of Furiosa seems to pretty much suggest audiences have officially tired of dystopian films and are latching towards more wide appeal, feel-good movies. This will bode extremely well for Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4, both of which could spend multiple weekends in fir...

Re: Screening The Releases - May 31st
I'd expect word of mouth to be awful on In a Violent Nature, as it essentially looks like a glorified snuff film. Previous films that have used the entire snuff film angle (the August Underground series, the Guinea Pig videos) have been very, very niche. As for Young Woman and the Sea, I'm convinced...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
I'm honestly amazed the writers of A Quiet Place got to direct again after the disaster that was 65. Meanwhile, a director like Lulu Wang hasn't gotten to direct since The Farewell a full five years ago. Further proof that angry white men on the Internet dictate everything that goes on in the film i...

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
The next three A24 x IMAX titles have been confirmed to be Midsommar (June 20th), Oasis: Supersonic (July 16th), and Everything Everywhere All at Once (August 28th). The last was previously released on IMAX two years ago. And seemingly in an attempt to trick people into thinking it's a sequel to Sou...

Re: Trailer: Wolfs
Jon Watts really wants to be late 90's/early 2000's Steven Soderbergh.
And I still can't get past the title. Shouldn't it be called Wolves?

That would require everyone who saw Pearl to see it 11 times in the first three days.

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep
Evil Does Not Exist 3/10 I don't think Hamaguchi is for me. This boring movie that feels like it was made by an emotionless robot focuses on a village in Japan fighting against the development of a resort and the representatives of the company wanting the resort wanting to get away from their work a...

Re: Tranny Tackles the Cinema: The Films of 5/24
They waited too long to make it and Anya Taylor-Joy doesn't have the star power Charlize Theron has. And I'm really starting to sound like a broken record here but there have been too many dystopian movies lately. Not every filmgoer is a doomer who wants The Running Man to be a reality so they can s...

From looking at Metacritic's Cannes recap, it looks like it was a lot of mediocrity and not much inbetween.

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
It looks like The Apprentice's road to American screens will take a while. Along with the mixed reception at Cannes (61 on Metacritic) that led to no studio picking it up in the US, there is some threatened legal action over the film that could end up taking months to settle (though I'm sure the Fir...
